Rug irritates baby's eyes/face?

Just wondering if anyone has experience with this. We have hard floors throughout our house, but 3 wool area rugs.  My 7 mth ds now sits up so I often put him on the rugs to play.  He's been breaking out with red bumps around his eyes, between his eyes, and sometimes on his cheeks and chin.  I think I finally traced it to the rugs because on days when he doesn't sit on the rug, his face stays much more clear.

2 of the rugs are relatively new and are still shedding a lot. We vacuum them frequently and hopefully the loose fibers will be gone soon.

I'm wondering if any of your babies were sensitive to carpet fibers.  Also, is it more likely to be a contact irritation from the fibers or an actual allergy to wool? My baby does have very sensitive skin, much more so than my other kids.

Yes, my dd's skin would get irritated from the carpet.  At one point she was red all over her body and I was ready to rush her to the ER till we clued in that she was red only on the parts that were in contact with the carpet.  My dd has more sensitive skin than my ds had and our carpets never bothered him. Our carpets are just regular Walmart carpets, no wool.

Thanks for your reply Magali.  How old is your dd now? Does she still get irritated from sitting on the rug?

No she doesn't get irritated anymore.  She is 11 months now.  She's been walking for about 2 months and doesn't have as much contact with the carpet anymore.  She would get all red when she was just starting to wiggle around on her tummy, and she was always wiggling off the blankets I tried to keep her on.  I also have to wash her clothes separate from ours because if I don't use just a tiny bit of detergent and give an extra rinse, she gets dry red patches.
