when to worry?

post #1 of 2
Thread Starter

Dh and I will be starting cycle#6 of ttc this month. I am wondering when we should be concerned about not concieving. I am 29, dh is 32 we are healthy with no known issues. It has been about 4 years since I have been on the BCP, I have been charting dilligently and we have time intercourse very well. I know the standard answer is 1 year, but in Taking Charge of Your Fertility the author says 4-6 months. What do you guys think?

Welcome to MDC!!  wave.gif

For your age group, I believe the average time to conceive is actually a bit longer than 6 months. More like 5-8 months.  Human conception is surprisingly inefficient!  I recall reading in The Mother of All Pregnancy Books 6-8 months and the source below says 5-7 months.  So you're still within the average window of time.  I know it's frustrating!

Quote:
Odds of getting pregnant in a given month, by age:
* early 20s: up to 25 percent
* late 20s and early 30s: up to 15 percent
* late 30s: up to 10 percent
* over 40: less than 5%

Number of women who achieve pregnancy within the first year of trying, by age:

* early 20s: 94 percent
* late 20s and early 30s: 70-85 percent
* late 30s: 65-70 percent

Average number of months to conception, by age:

* early 20s: 4-5 months
* late 20s: 5-7 months
* early 30s: 7-10 months
* late 30s: 10-12 months

Can you post your charts so we can see if anything of concern pops out?  If you're using a free site like www.fertilityfriend.com you can hit the share button and copy and paste the url.  You could also include the url in your signature.
