new uses for old shoeboxes, with lids, in good condition?

I just hate throwing away (recycling) things that i could use somewhere else, but i seem to keep around a lot of shoeboxes meaning to do something with them until i get frustrated by their empty presence so i toss them... what do you use them for?

Give them to your local school, either daycare, prek or k-8 school.  One of the teachers will love them!

(the teachers need shoeboxes for dio-ramas and other art projects)

I was going to suggest this, too. Teachers love things like that.

DH uses them for storing each year's taxes and accompanying paperwork.  He does our taxes and we aren't the most organized in the paperwork-realm, but he can always go to the basement and locate last year's shoebox if needed.

We found kids shoe boxes to be an ideal size for CDs and mr men books so they each have a couple  in their rooms which I covered in pretty paper. They would be good for other little bits and pieces that kids collect too.

At this time of year especially our local churches are collecting shoe boxes for filling with Christmas gifts and sending abroad. There's usually a place to drop off empty ones so people who haven;t happened to buy shoes recently can still fill a box.

I've seen requests for empty shoe boxes on freecycle too.

I find they make good shipping boxes, too.

I use them to wrap gifts in bag.gif If anyone gets a gift from me in a shoebox, open it because its not shoes!

Organizing things like pens, markers, crayons, legos etc. One of my friends use them to store pictures in. Project boxes (like if you knit, sew, paint or do things like that).

One person I knew used a bunch when she was remodeling her house. Each room had its own "box" where she stored paint samples, cut outs from magazines etc for that room. That way when she went to work on it she just pulled that box out and off she went.
