Hello mothers, I decided to ask here out of many other places because I thought you might have more insight to this.

I have heard both sides. "Periods are not supposed to hurt, the excessive pain means that the body is dysfunctioning, whether it be nutritional deficiency or chemical allergies"

But then there are the others who say, "Periods are supposed to hurt badly, there is no other way"

I told another woman that my first few periods did not hurt at all, but began hurting badly as time when by. I have stopped getting excessive pain from my periods once I stopped using disposable sanitary products. Besides the pain, there is only a slight cramp and a lot more benefits for me when I get my period. I usually felt happier and calmer during my period, and my skin clears after I have one. My friend said that it is possible that my periods feel good because it is getting rid of excess iron, and that I should check with a doctor to make sure I do not have excess iron.

Is it possible that menstruation helps me feel better because I have too much iron in my blood? I thought this blood disorder was unlikely due to my ethnicity, as I have no celtic blood in me. I have never given birth yet, so periods are probably suppose to hurt more for someone like me.

Were periods beneficial to any other women here? How about before you had your first child?
