How Long After Delivery?

I'm due in late November and want to be back in action by New Years. Since I was never active after delivering my first two, I never really found out how quickly I could hop back into exercise and fitness. Any advice on when it would be good to start again or any ways to get into an exercise regimen more quickly?

My MW gave me the go ahead like a month after birth.  I think it depends on how you heal and your body type.  I walked a TON while pregnant and continued immediately after birth, which I was really supposed to be taking it easy for 2 weeks post birth, per my MW.  I had no complications, tears, etc.  I am a busy body and needed to get out!

I will go walking with in a day or two.  Then I wait about two weeks before starting any intense exercise.  Just enough time to let the bleeding mellow out some.  I think it was about a week and a half after birth when I started weight training and doing aerobics this last time.  It's sooner than most people recommend.  But I am a busy body too, and it's always helped me get my figure back asap.

My midwife said I could start exercising for 15 minutes at a time at 3 weeks pp, as long as I was sleeping well.  She said absolutely no weight lifting or ab exercises before the 6 week check up though.  I was running and doing hard cardio all through pregnancy (like I was at the gym 12 hours before giving birth) and it's really hard not to just go back to that!
