Hi ladies! Sorry to worry you, it's just been a whirlwind week!
Last Monday I was having symptoms. Real contractions started around 5:30pm that evening. We labored at home until around 1am, and then decided it was time to go to the hospital. I was 5-6 centimeters dilated when we got there, and very excited to have made such progress. We checked in, and the nursing staff was fantastic. They pretty much just left me to do whatever I wanted. We walked, swayed, tried different positions, etc. Around 4am, the contractions began getting near unbearable... I started vomiting and/or dry heaving with each contraction, which was a couple minutes apart. They checked me again, and I was still only a little over 6 centimeters... that was pretty discouraging. I decided at that point that I was going to need the epidural. I had wanted to do it without it, but after nearly 12 hours of labor and a pretty slow progress, I needed the rest. So I got the epidural, and after that was able to sleep/rest intermittently. Around 9:15am, the doctor said it was time to push. I could still feel pressure during contractions, so I knew when to push. After a few good pushes, the doctor said he thought it would be another 30 to 45 minutes of pushing. He turned around to get something, and I remember saying "I feel pressure again" and out pops the head. I didn't even push that time. He turned around pretty quick and caught the head, and he just came on out. It was an amazing experience. Jacob was born at 9:55am on October 4, weighing in a 8lb 12.1 oz, 21 inches. He is just perfect!!!
And to come back to great news from Caly!!!! So happy for you!
