possible ectopic pregnancy or something else?

Hello! I am 13 months post partum and my period has been back since April. I am still nursing my baby, so it isn't truly back on schedule, yet.

I got what I thought was a "normal" period 4 weeks ago, but then I started bleeding again 16 days ago. At first, I figured it was just because I'm still nursing and my hormones are crazy, but because I'm still bleeding, I contacted my midwife.

The bleeding isn't heavy enough for a pad or tampon and there have been no clumps or clots. I haven't had cramps. My abdomen started getting tender the last 2 days, but I thought it was because my baby head butted my stomach a few times.

My midwife suggested a pregnancy test and it was positive this morning. She is concerned about it being an ectopic pregnancy, but I can't get to their office until next week. They really don't want me to wait that long.

My husband wants me to go to the ER tonight. But what are they really going to do? I don't want to be there for hours and just have them tell me to just go see my Obgyn/midwife.

What do you think??

i don't know that the ER is really going to be able to do anything-- the best way to tell what's going on is for you to have hcg bloodwork draws two days in a row or every other day.  is there a lab nearby where they could do this and send results to your midwife?  ectopics are difficult to diagnose at first.

my first pregnancy was an ectopic.

i would advise you to go to the midwife's office as soon as you can, not to wait to do that.  you absolutely have to catch an ectopic early as possible- you could die or lose your tube.  nothing to mess around with.

tenderness in your abdomen, especially if it is on one side, is pretty concerning.

i am sorry this is happening to you.  i hope they figure it out pretty quickly.

if you decide to go to a lab or midwife, you need to be on the lookout for a deteriorating ectopic- that is when it gets dangerous, but there are some things to look for.  (that's a good resource website for this in general, too)

((hugs))
