Floradix

I am considering getting Floradix for suspected low iron (though I haven't heard back about my blood test yet).  Currently, I'm just trying to eat more egg yolks and red meat and I take a tablespoon of blackstrap molasses each day (when I remember).  I'm wondering if there is any proof to back up the claims that Floradix is the awesomest iron supplement ever.  I don't have any particular reason to doubt it, but if the $5 molasses will do the same job that the $50 Floradix will do, I'm going to stick with the molasses.  If it will stop me feeling like I'm half dead, I'm happy to shell out the money for it.  I just would like to see some kind of info on it.

TIA!

where is this 50 buck floradix?!!

even pricey whole foods carries it for around 25 bucks!  Often it seems that the problem with iron isnt only intake but absorbtion, im pretty sure floradix iron becuase its partnered with other minerals and vitamins helps your body absorb the iron better then if you were to just increase iron: ) iron iron iron, im sounding very repetitve and sleepy : )

vitamin shoppe has it reasonable, and you can get it through amazon.

and, i love my floradix.  totally, totally, totally worth it, and every one i've recommended it to agrees.  the difference in how i feel is night and day when i take it and when i don't...and actually...my iron is technically in the okay range.

It does do an amazing job!  I always take it when I'm pregnant and when DS was low in iron his pediatrician recommended it too.

I get mine at vitacost.com for about half the price.

I'm in Canada, I think that's why it's so pricey.  The big 700 ml (24 oz?) bottle has been $50 in the few stores where I've seen it, and generally the same -- or the same after shipping -- online.  I haven't spent a long time looking, though.

Thanks for your input, everyone.

So it sounds like everyone who uses it loves it, and I've never heard anything negative about it.  I'm very wary of upsetting my stomach when pregnant because I've had problems in the past.  I think I'll bite the bullet and pay for it.

MommyMarshall, that's the first time I've heard of a Dr. recommending it; I guess I pictured is as a naturopath/herbalist/midwife thing.  Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just I figure if people from lots of different kinds of health care professions are recommending it, it's more likely to be the super product people say it is.  Thanks!

My MW suggested iron-rich foods, nettle tea, iron cooking pans, floradix AND regular old iron supplements. I've done all that and my iron levels have come back up somewhat.

I got the floradix capsules after I finished the liquid, b/c I didn't like the taste of the liquid.

I have heard conflicting things about floradix actually- that it helped some people and no effect for others. I have also heard about some other brands that might be cheaper- but can't for the life of me remember what they are.

The form of iron used in Floradix is highly bio-available and more active than the forms commonly prescribed and available in health food stores.  The liquid form makes the iron even more available compared to pills.  Floradix is also non-constipating so it won't upset your stomach or cause any "back-ups"...this is why midwives love it!  We have a clinical studies and research available on our website at http://www.requiredforlife.com/clinical-studies.html.  It's in a base of fruit juice and is rich in vitamins, minerals and herbs that all help with the uptake of iron.  Some midwives have also recommended taking it in conjunction with black strap molasses and/or chlorophyll.

On a more personal note...I took is throughout my pregnancy and still take it while I'm on my cycle.  It really helps and I have had no problems despite my sensitive digestive tract.  We have received a ton of amazing feedback from the birthing and midwife community about Floradix and also have several top female athletes who swear by it.  I hope this helps!

I was anemic during my 1st pregnancy, but I was really reluctant to take supplements because I was also very constipated and was worried that supplements would make it intolerable.

I got my iron levels up to the low side of normal by adding iron-rich food to everything I could think of (sprinkled wheat germ and mixed maple syrup into my oatmeal, added spinach to any kind of stir-fry or dinner entree, increased my consumption of red meat) and trying to make sure I paired the iron-rich meal with vitamin C rich food, since C helps with absorption.  I also tried to make sure that any dairy I consumed was at a different time of the day, as the dairy can interfere with absorption.

Floradix might be great- can't say since I haven't tried it.  But if you are reluctant to do the supplements you could always try diet changes for a few days and see if it helps.

I took Floradix for the last week of my pregnancy and the first two weeks postpartum. It made such a huge difference. I didn't find the taste to be too bad, but I usually mixed it with a little bit of orange juice. The vitamin c helps with absorption and the orange juice disguises the taste. I know it's expensive, even $25 for the bottle was a lot for me at the time, but it's so worth it.

I finished the bottle, but haven't gotten another one. I think I've gotten my iron levels up to a good place and now I can maintain with the prenatals. But if I start to feel run-down again, you can bet I'll get another bottle!

Ewww!  Orange juice?

I tried that and thought it was horrible.  I take mine in grape juice. :)

I liked it because the taste was so much better than the rusty nails taste of other supplements (I can drink it straight), it worked, and it didn't constipate.
