lip tie?

DD2 has somewhat of a lip tie that is visually apparent but when i brought it up with my dr back when she was an infant the dr just said it doesn't seem to be giving her any trouble so no need to worry. Meanwhile, little did i know how related this is to breast feeding..we constantly had latch and supply issues. I have just stumbled across all of this information now when DS is 5 months. Now I am thinking that he has a tongue tie! He has the same visual "tie"(that's what i assume it is) and we do again have issues with a shallow latch and supply. He also isn't very good at taking a soother and can't keep any soother in his mouth other than the gum drop ones they give at the hospital and even then he doesn't keep it in for any length of time but will happily if i gently hold it in (is that a sign of lip tie?).
If after some more information, i really do think this is the problem, what is the next step? A lactation consultant for her input? Or just straight to the dr who said it was no prob with my DD? R lip ties ever present but not a problem?

My ped was completely useless when it came to my baby's tongue and lip tie.  The LCs didn't recognize it either. If you can find an LC who has experience, that would be a good place to start, especially to get a referral to someone who treats it. Stay away from anyone that insists your babe needs general anesthesia to treat this!  Perhaps you can find someone at this link: http://www.lowmilksupply.org/frenotomy.shtml
