5mo rarely laughs.

DD started laughing at almost 4 months. From the start she hasn't laughed much. DS is the only one that has made her laugh a lot. She has laughed a grand total of one time for me and that wasn't a lot. Now she's 5 months old and still has only laughed a handful of times. It seems like it's happening less and less often. It's been about a week since the last time. It's harder and harder to get her to smile now too. I have to grin really big and talk to her for several minutes to get a smile, where before all I had to do was look at her and I was getting huge grins.

Is this something I should be concerned about? She's meeting all her milestones, making eye contact, and seems content enough, just not overly cheerful.

Our LO was like that too. We used to joke about her "weekly laugh". She's 16 months now and grins/squeals/laughs all the time.

Jack didn't even smile until about 4 months (granted, he was 5 weeks early) and didn't laugh until about 5.5/6. Now, at 8 months, he belly laughs ALL the time. I think they are just all so different!!

I had a serious LO for a while, too. She's almost 8 mos now, and all smiles. I think it's especially hard to get them to laugh at mama early on; they see themselves as part of you, so you're not really funny (not the way daddy and siblings are, anyway). I'm sure she's fine!

Our DD (age 8) was the same way when she was a baby. So serious. Now she is the life of the party.
