Anything Extra scary about Pentacel?

Thread Starter

What I mean by extra scary is, have there been any additional concerns about this particular combo / brand?  Such as increase in reactions, etc.

The reason I am considering it is I have decided to catch up my son who is behind and this would reduce the number of injections and thus ingredients such as aluminum. He has already had DTaP, IPV, and HIB before with no out of ordinary reaction. The other combos that are available either contain trace Thimerisol or contain dairy ingredients (casalbumin or lactalbumin) - DS severely allergic to dairy.

I may have to request this special at my doc so I need to know ahead of time so I can call them.

Pro-life people don't like that it is made using MRC-5.

I haven't done any research on Pentacel's adverse effects compared to the other vaccines. Here is the package insert for Pentacel.

per insert:

 For infants and children with a history of previous seizures, an antipyretic
may be administered (in the dosage recommended in its prescribing
information) at the time of vaccination with Pentacel and for the
next 24 hours. (5.4)
^^^ why do they recommend giving that when they came out with a study saying NOT to give tylenol before/after vaxing because it reduces the immune response?

Because they are trying to reduce the risk of seizures. Parents complain about seizures. Lack of effectiveness is something parents won't notice until their child gets pertussis, which kids get, vaccinated or not, Tylenol or no Tylenol. When a child develops asthma at age 7, the vast majority of parents aren't going to link that to the Tylenol they gave their child before the age of one year old, per the doctor's and package insert's instructions. http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/story/2008/09/19/asthma-child.html
