I have a 7 wk old son and have had mastitis several times since he was born complete with fever, aches, chills, etc.  I think it may have been the same infection that wasn't wiped out rather than separate infections, but who knows.  I have had it on both breasts, but usually only one at a time.  The last two times I got it (5th and 6th times), I went on antibiotics.  I felt better physically right away.  However, the pinkness lasted even though the flaming redness subsided right away.  I still have some muscle weakness or achy feeling, but no fever, better energy, etc.  I was on Amoxicillin the first time for 10 days and now I'm on Keflex for 14 days (4 times a day).  I'm on day 3 of the Keflex (there was a week in btwn the end of the amoxicillin and the start of the Keflex.

I still have pinkness to the breast.  I am getting paranoid something more serious is going on since the pinkness won't go away.  However, it does seem to be nearly gone when I'm laying down.  Then when I go to inspect it closer when I stand up to look in the mirror, it's pinker.  I'm reading into every little bump, lump, dimple, pain, color change, etc because a stupid doc at urgent care told me to look into inflammatory breast cancer since I had mastitis several times (he is the one who prescribed amoxicillin so it was the first time I had taken abx for it).  I have seen a breast specialist who said it seems like mastitis, but she won't commit to saying it's not something more serious which makes me freak.

Anyway, has anyone had mastitis that resolved, but took awhile for all the pinkness to go away?  I'm so tired of worrying about my boobs.Â
