I have a LOT of pain from nursing and it's just getting worse. I'm also pretty sure I have no more milk. Maybe once or twice a week I'll feel a super-painful letdown and dd will swallow once or twice. :-( I am sad. She will be 2 next month and I wanted to be done before the baby was born, but not this way. We're down to only nursing before bed, but she's REALLY attached to nursing before bed. It's such a sweet time and she gets so much enjoyment out of it - I'm not ready to stop either. I talked to her about it last night a little bit, told her that it might hurt mommy too much to nurse for much longer. We both cried.
On a lighter note, our first midwife appointment went great. We heard the heartbeat right away and dd was completely awed by the sound. The midwife tried to get dd to let her listen to her heart, but it was not happening. :-) Dd talks about it constantly though now and says that next time, the midwife can listen to the "kitty in her belly." Yes, she claims she has a kitty in her belly. It makes her happy. It's a little weird, but we're going with it. :-)
We are pretty freaked out by the out-of-pocket cost of home birth too, but we're prepared to make the sacrifice to have this baby at home. Last time we took what we thought was the "less stressful" route of having the baby in the hospital and it was so stressful! The amount of effort that went in to preparing ourselves for a hospital birth was not worth it to me. The birth was great, but the hospital was gross, I didn't know the nurses, the midwife was in and out and left me to the mercy of the nurses for the night, which turned out to be disastrous (let me just say, GET UP AND PEE right away after birth, even if no one remembers to remind you and even if it doesn't feel like you need to!), etc., etc...
The thing that is bugging me right now is the other costs not included in the midwife's fee. Our insurance only pays 80% and we had a deductible that wasn't met by summer, so the $500 ultrasound and the $400 blood work threw us for a bit of a loop. And the deductible restarts in January! Yay.
But I am still so excited to plan for a home birth! I think I'm going to ask my friend to be here for dd, and I want my mom and dad here too. I can't wait to order the tub...I am a planning freak.
