Ok, I'm sure all of us have done things you're not "supposed" to do while pregnant. Confess your sins and be absolved here! wink1.gif

Whether you did them before you knew, didn't realize it was "bad," or straight up knew and just didn't care.

I have...

had a few diet cokes ::gasp::

had some salmon sushi maki ::shock::

had some soft cheese that may not have been pasteurized. ::horror::

The last one was kind of an exception. Normally I'm avoiding raw cheeses while pregnant, but when someone offers you fancy goat cheese imported from France... how I say no?

Ok ladies, fess up, what "no-no" things have you done?

I have...

had a sip of hubby's beer (before I knew I was pregnant)

ridden a bike

had a regular cup of coffee

cleaned out my cat's litter box (once. DH has taken over that chore now)

Other than that, I've been pretty cautious. I want to eat brie so bad though.

Uh...I have been extremely careful this pregnancy because I've lost three however:

- raw cheese is a daily staple in my diet. Organic raw cheddar, it's aged over 8 months so that's supposed to kill everything but still...if you're eating from a reputable source (ie not bathtub cheese you purchased from the lady on the corner selling it out of a beat up cooler), I don't really buy the "don't eat raw cheese" line. I ate raw cheese and raw milk all thru my pregnancy with DD2 and she is my healthiest. I'd be going for raw milk this time too except for the side of radioactive cesium that comes with it now....

- not exactly contraband but I may or may not have polished off almost the entire box of maple creme sandwich cookies from trader joes...in a period of a day or two.

- I miss caffeine. I don't usually cut it out but this time since I'm extra paranoid I won't even touch a cup of green tea (after first trimester maybe I will)...

Yeah...my confessions are pretty boring.

I think it's up to everyone to come up with what they are / are not comfortable with. I don't really think there are any "wrong" choices (aside from obvious things like binge drinking).

Nonetheless if you're feeling guilty, we can all commiserate here :D

We celebrated the good news with sushi, I've been eating feta, I occasionally use benzoyl peroxide, I've had a sip or two of beer (I love tasting good craft beers), and I had a single americano a couple weeks ago. And I drink tea with some regularity (3-4 cups a week).

I drank before I knew.  I am not going to give up caffeine (I am 35, work on my feet, and have two much older kids - adding pregnancy to that list makes me need caffeine like never before) and snuck a california roll the other day.  I will probably eat more sushi, soft cheese, and who knows what all else before it's over.

About 5 days before I got my + I had half a dozen raw oysters...they were SO good too.  Probably won't do that again for awhile though.  I do drink raw milk, but I trust the farmer I get it from and I can't stand store-bought milk (I won't be sharing this with my Dr!).  Lastly, I do have the occasional cup of coffee, but I find that I usually don't finish the 12 oz that I pour...usually finish about half.  There's no way I'm giving up my soft cheeses though!  What do they do in France?  I don't think they go without their yummy cheese for 9 months!

My understanding of most of the food restrictions is that if it's something you're already doing and it's never made you sick, it's probably fine.

There are only a few things I've seen that have "hidden" effects (alcohol, certain high-mercury fish, and cleaning a cat litter box come to mind).

I just drank a bottle of Cheerwine (it's soda, no alcohol at all). Sooo tasty! Cheerwine is found mostly in the southern US, and is really hard to find up here so a friend brought me some for my birthday.

We often have wine with diner and I am still taking sips. I drink tea everyday. I am sure my showers are MUCH too hot to be safe. I eat brie (usually cooked, grilled ham and brie is one of my favs) still enjoying lunch meat every now and again. Oh the horrors! It is amazing I have had 3 healthy children with all the no-no's I partake in!!

I second the still sipping wine. And the occasional taste of a good beer. But, all in small amounts.

I also still eat soft cheeses.

And, I've gotten into the habit of taking a hot bath with ds every night, and they're QUITE toasty...so not sure if they're on the "no-no" list, but it is something I avoided last pregnancy. For some reason, it seems very safe and relaxing this go around though, so I'm not too worried.

I have a diet coke every day, and its delicious.

I am not drinking as much water as I should, but I am trying to be better.

I forgot soft cheese was a no-no, oops guess I broke that rule.

I NEED a glass of wine after how stressful this week was, but I ignored that open bottle of Riesling from the local winery that I wanted soooooo bad.

I forget to take my prenatals, a lot.

Oh I love this. I'm going to treat myself to a ham sandwich this week. :)

I rode my horse and drank wine most days before I found out I was pregnant.

I've given up my organic, fresh and local diet for Kraft macaroni and cheese and Lucky Charms. Because right now I eat what I can stomach.

Oh, and Lightheartedmom, I'm going to find myself some maple cream cookies this week as well!

That is quite the change!

I eat Oreos for breakfast. It's the only thing that sounds halfway tolerable in the morning.

I drink a soda every other day or so.

Hot showers are a staple at my house. It's how I feel human.

I forget my prenatals at least half the time.

I'm so not eating healthy. At.All. The last thing that sounds good is healthy stuff. Right now things that sound good are cheese (really of any kind, especially on pizza, nachos or pretzels), Fries and in general junk. Sweets aren't on my list at all, but lots of greasy savory foods. Like I said...I eat Oreos for breakfast. redface.gif

I think I'm just preparing for the food aversions that are going to hit soon. If they don't...I'm liable to gain 70lbs this pregnancy.

I refuse to give up my morning coffee.....it's the only way I function prior to noon.  I've been good so far about taking my vitamins, but I can't guarantee that will be the case 33 weeks from now.  And feta?  Gotta have it occasionally.  I doubt Greeks give it up so neither am I :)

I've never had a problem giving up caffeine, but I've picked up a soda habit instead. Lots of sprite being consumed over here.

Lots of cheese and french fries as well.

I also forget my prenatals all the time.

I eat lunch meat. It's just something I can't give up. My whole life has been sandwiches for lunch. I've tried other things, but it's just too much effort.

I had sushi twice so far. I don't plan to give it up.

I did switch from raw milk back to pasteurized. I don't trust the supplier that much. I've had two miscarriages in the past year. I'd rather be safe than sorry. I don't use a lot of milk anyway so it wasn't a big deal.

Ate some soft cheese samples at Whole Foods the other day. It was goat brie and terrible. I've never been a fan of brie.

Not giving up caffeine- I'm 27, work on my feet, and have two toddlers who keep me up most of the night and get me up before dawn in the morning. I NEED my caffiene.

LOVE feta. I suck at prenatals, terrible memory here!

NO healthy food here either. Pizza, grilled cheese, mac and cheese, packaged cookies, tons of greasy foods. Oh, so terrible. Soon I'll stop. I tell myself.

Soft cheese- all our soft cheeses are pasturized? Even feta is pasturized. I looked it up last pregnancy and read it was the worry about the unapasturized. The feta is the same- when that warning came out, there was a lot of unpasturized cheese floating around locally that got people all freaked out. I totally ignore the cheese thing.

And I sort of ignore the alcohol one. I'll have a few mouthfuls of wine or beer here and there throughout the pregnancy. Never a full glass of anything, but a few swallows I think is just fine.

I went to France while pregnant with number 2 and ate ALL KINDS of unpasteurized dairy.

And guess what I saw all over the place while there?  Healthy children.  Apparently the raw milk had no effect on French birth rates.

The rest of that pregnancy, I lived in Germany and ate all kinds of moldy, unregulated, amazing farmer's market cheese.  I licked the fat off the top of bottles of raw organic milk on an almost daily basis.  That was the pregnancy that did not involve preterm labor and gestational diabetes (unlike my neurotic, bacteria free, American, first pregnancy with number one), so I am thinking the dairy risk may not be quite so risky.  The jury's still out on all the British beef we ate.  I guess we could get mad cow disease yet.  And I would have to say the pasties were worth it.

Also, I just drank coffee.

I am chewing lot of gum.  The only way to stop feeling sick is to get my mind really involved in something, or eat something.  I am starting the pg heavier than I have ever been, and REALLY don't want to gain my standard 60 pounds.  So, instead of eating all day, I'm chewing gum.  It doesn't sound that bad, but gum has artificial sweeteners, like aspartame, that I am really, really opposed to, pregnant or not.

I don't drink alcohol anyway, and I don't like soft cheese, and I think being worried about lunchmeat is ridiculous.  So, I'm good there.  Well, hot dogs.  They are gross...but they are gross anyway.

I think I am working out to hard.  I'm trying to be careful, but I *love* crossfit.  It feels great.  I feel great.  But, I hurt my knee the other day.  I'm not using much weight, but I'm still trying to get the hang of some of the lifts, and hyperextended a bit.  When my ligaments get all loose, that could be really bad.

I forgot about the caffeine thing.  I don't normally drink it that much anyway, but did share my hubby's Dr. Pepper for dinner Saturday.  It tasted good.  :-)

I chew gum all the time too.  Whenever I eat anything, I get the worst after taste in my mouth that makes me gag. Chewing gum has helped me keep my gag reflex down and soothes the nausea somewhat.

I switched back to the not as good Walmart prenatals.  I bought the ones from Costco that have the Omega 3 fish oils in them but they have a pungent odor that makes me want to puke & they are SO huge.  I can't take them right now.  :-(

I am not exercising like I should be or want to.  Before pregnancy I was walking at least 5 days a week.  Now I'm lucky if I feel good enough to walk 1-2 days a week.  I hope when the m/s calms down I can pick it back up again.
