I've been eating over-easy eggs that I cook myself, but yesterday I decided to avoid them in restaurants. I got huevos rancheros (mmmm) but as I was eating them I realized that the whites were still runny in some places. No good.

I had a hot dog for lunch the other day. When heated properly they don't carry any special risks for pregnancy, but they're not exactly a high quality food for anyone.

Let's see.... I take hot baths, I eat peanut butter (is that still a no-no? it was when I had my daughter), I eat lunch meat without heating it, I didn't know until just now that over easy eggs were a no-no so that's there too.

Oh, and despite my supremely paranoid doctor who advises all his women patients to not have cats at all, I have two cats, two dogs and have sex with my man all the time!!!

Lol sometimes you just have to do what feels right to you.

I think the peanut/butter thing is only a no-no if there's a history of peanut allergies in either your or your husband's family.

My doctor said it was just as well we don't have cats, and that if we did my husband would have to be the one on litterbox duty.

While we don't have any permanent cats, we do foster kittens from the local shelter from time to time, but that's on hold while I'm pregnant. While the risks of getting something nasty from your 10 year old indoor cat are pretty slim, the kittens we get are right off the street and are almost always sick. So no kittens until next summer.

But they're so cute!

OMG BABY KITTIES!!!!

There were a bunch of studies way back when about how eating peanut butter while pregnant prevented the allergy, then it was refuted, and then it was re-proven and then disproven, and on and on.

I figure, I ate it with my daughter because I was 20 and in college and it was cheap and delicious, and she has no allergies at all, so why not?

I'm a big believer in if it's what you're craving (within reason) your body probably needs something in the food.

I have read peanut allergies are due to immunizations. I ate PB every pregnancy and i have 6 kids with no PB allergies.

From what I understand about allergies, no one seems to understand them. I've read the same thing about immunizations (not sure how true that is). I've also read it's from exposing foods too early, although waiting past 7 months to introduce a food seems to make no difference in the rate of allergies. I've read it's from formula feeding and starting on processed foods (ie, over-processed rice cereal) leads to leaky gut which can lead to allergies. I've read it's genetic. In the end - no one knows. There does appear to be no benefit in waiting to introduce foods- someone I know was told by her doctor not to give her kid peanuts, eggs, or shellfish until after she turned 3 (!) because she'd have an allergy otherwise.

I hate the bad advice. I'd love it if doctors could just admit they don't know.

I'm trying not to stress about allergies. My kid appears to be pretty sensitive to dairy, which sucks, but not a lot I could do to prevent it from what I can tell.

I ate a foot long tuna sub days before I found out I was expecting.  I probably should have known then... normally I would never be able to eat that much!

We found out the first day of our honeymoon that we were expecting.  We had a wine tour scheduled!  So I did take small sips of several of the wines.  We also took a probably-hotter-than-allowed bath while on vacation.  Though I didn't stay in for too long because I was so paranoid.

We usually eat quite healthfully in our house.  We get a weekly CSA with tons of fresh veggies... I haven't been able to stomach any of them. I've been eating quite a few more sweets than normal.  Ice cream about every other night, and carbs all the time.  Normally I'm not much of a sweets person.

One day for lunch the only thing good sounding to me was macaroni and cheese.  So I went to our grocery store's hot foods bar.  I got macaroni and cheese, and some kale because I figured that would be nice and healthy.  I felt like I wanted something else, so I also got a bit of lo mein (gross!)  When I got back to work, I took one bite of the kale and spit it out, it tasted terrible (normally something I love).  So, yes, I ate macaroni and lo mein for lunch.  Fortunately my nausea has lightened quite a bit and I am eating a much more varied diet now!

The more I read this thread the more things I find out are supposedly "bad".. how is a new mother supposed to know about all this stuff?????????  This is getting ridiculous!  I have 3 cats, eat peanut butter all the time, and luckily haven't craved eggs at all or I would have had them over easy!  Good grief!

I think I've pretty much ignored the "rules" with each of my pregnasnd ncies. I'm Greek, and I always ate loads of feta with my other pregnancies (not this time, but only because I'm on the GAPS diet for immune healing, and feta not allowed). I eat lots of raw cheddar, raw or undercooked eggs, raw dairy...basically, if What to Expect says not to eat it...I just might. wink1.gif

I was in a wedding last weekend, and since we haven't announced to family or friends yet, I was unsure of what to do at the three different times that champagne was made to be a serious event. So, I just sipped, and left it at that.

DH and I have s Groupon for wine tasting that expires next month, so we're going to go. My mom's OB (who I would go to if I had hospital births) told me that women in Europe drink wine every day during pg, and it's not really a big deal. I don't drink a ton outside of pregnancy anyway, but I have a glass a week or so, so I guess it's okay to sip here and there when I'm pg.

I have eaten oyster stew and it was yummy! i dont know if it is on the no no list but if i have the taste for it i am going to eat it. i did have the taste for beer my last pregnancy, which i cant stand but did not indulge. i would just take big whiffs to satisfy my craving.

I've been taking my prenatal vitamin for 2 years; throughout my first pregnancy, then continuing because I was breastfeeding. It seemed like old hat for me so I never thought about it once we were TTC. Just last night I was looking at the ingredients and noticed that the daily dose is 2 pills, not 1 like I've been taking for my entire 9 weeks of pregnancy!!!

I am slightly mortified, but I guess it's better than nothing...

Seriously? So did he tell you to get rid of your cats? I've always heard the lunch meat thing is more for those who get their meat at a butcher/deli. The packaged stuff from a megamart should be fine.

OMG that kitten is so cute, how can you go without an adorable face like that for a year! It sounds like you've had a lot of exposure so I'd bet your immune to toxoplasmosis, you can test (not sure exactly what's involved, but I've heard you can be tested for immunity to it) if you are you could keep doing it (if you have the energy, I probably wouldn't :p).

My three year old would have starved. Eggs are a staple of her diet. Have you tried a candida eliminating supp? We thought our 3yo was allergic to dairy for some time when she was a year or so old, but turned out to be a candida overgrowth that would go crazy when she had milk products. After using candex and a good probiotic for many months she's just fine now. FWIW

This I am craving carbs, sugar, and meat. The veggies I normally eat are either going to the kids or the tortoise. I've tried to choke down my nearly daily salad and just can't do it.

i subscribe to immunizations cause the allergies view point. I eat tons of eggs and peanut butter during all of my pregnancies and have 6 allergy free children (all unvaxed) I was told to buy me deli meat at the counter and avoid the pre-packaged stuff thats been sitting because thats the stuff with listeria issues. But then again i have been known to drink raw  milk, gasp! So you may not want to take my advice.

I hear you about the veggis thing, i can not gag down my favorite daily green smoothie any more. In fact i hate spinach right now and I usually eat a ton of it!

G - that's funny that you heard the opposite as me! See just goes to show, it's all just a crap shoot :) I drank raw milk during part of my third pregnancy, then our farmer started having freezer issues and the milk was souring too fast. Haven't been able to find another farmer since then. I've been thinking about calling our old farmer back, but from my understanding he has more demand than supply these days, which makes me happy to hear.

I never take prenatals anyway because such high concentrations of vitamins in one pill are most likely not absorbed anyway.  no need to be mortified ;)

I'm trying to think of a way we could collect all this data we are sharing now about food cravings and aversions, then compare it to the gender of everyone's baby as they find out/give birth, to see if there is any correlation. geek.gif

hm.. we could start a thread and everyone post all their symptoms, cravings, they can go back and edit their first post as the months go on, then in the end edit to add the gender

I had the same thought the other day.  I started taking a liquid prenatal (I cannot swallow pills right now) and my second pee after I take it is bright yellow.  Doesn't that mean the vitamins aren't being absorbed?  Should I start taking a 1/2 tbsp in the morning and 1/2 at night?

I was thinking this too!  I'm a nerd when it comes to research and statistics.  I want to make a study out of everything.  lol

You peeing out the excess B vitamins i believe. No need to worry. I am concerned more with the quality of the vitamin than anything. i do not take synthetic vitamins because they are not absorbed, I make sure to take natural source vitamins, you can always tell a better quality vitamin because they will cost more and you won't able to buy them at the corner drug store.

Okay good.  I do buy quality vitamins so I guess I won't worry. :)  It was just weird seeing that bright yellow pee so soon after taking it.

BTW, if anyone is having trouble swallowing pills check out Buried Treasure liquid prenatal.  My midwife recommended it.  I found it at Whole Foods, but I'm not sure if they all carry it or not.
