I think it's great that your son tags along with you and that he's able to entertain himself with his blocks and the pets. I really believe that kids learn the most when they're involved in "real life" activities and chores. That said, I understand wanting to set aside special time and projects for your little one. My son is 16 months and loves:
Â
-Playing with water. We've been outside all summer but when it's cold I plan to put a towel down in the kitchen and let him practice pouring water with plastic bowls and cups.
Â
--Having dance parties. I turn on fun music and we do silly dance moves. He's also really into ring-around-the-rosie lately, but probably wouldn't have been able to do it at 14 months. When I'm feeling brave, I get out some instruments or even just pots and pans and a wooden spoon and let him go at it.
Â
--Hide and seek. We hide in really obvious places and quietly call my son's name. He shrieks with joy and excitement when he "finds" us.
Â
I also had a hard time thinking things to do with my little guy. It definitely gets easier as they get older (as you probably know from your older one.) And as long as he's happy and engaged wandering around, he's probably getting all the stimulation and opportunities for learning that he needs!
