Hormone disrupters in body lotions...

Thread Starter

I've been reading "Mastering your Metabolism" again, and they talk about using products that have chemicals that disrupt hormones.

But, I don't know what I SHOULD be using.  Or avoiding.

Can you give me ideas of a safe lotion that is fairly easy to get my hands on?

I use organic coconut oil for a body lotion. Easy, healthy, and pretty cheap. My resource for clean makeup and personal care products is the book "No More Dirty Looks."

Off the top of my head, I try to avoid products that contain ingredients like parabens, pthalates, and all fragrance.

I also avoid the ingredients mentioned in the previous post as well as propylene glycol and SLS.

Organic coconut oil is my choice, too.

You can alternate between different natural oils, though, till you find the best working for your skin type.

I LOVE Shea Moisture products.  I use the Coconut & Hibiscus lotion currently.  I think it's actually a facial moisturizer, but I use it on my whole body.  The lotion contains NO: parabens, phthalates, paraffin, formaldehyde, propylene glycol, mineral oil, synthetic fragrance, PABA, synthetic color, DEA, animal ingredients.  The label also says, "Tested on our family for four generations. Never tested on animals"  :)  You can get it at Target and a few other places.  It's about $10, and it's super thick so it lasts a really long time.  And it smells amazing.

I also use coconut oil (on my face) and pure shea butter (on my body) about once every couple weeks.

I love Dr. Bronner's if you're looking for something scented.  We love the soap!
