We are moving to Homosassa, Florida to live near my in-laws. I have never been there. Could anyone give me their honest impression of the area. And, what beaches do we use? I have 3 kids and am looking forward to taking them to the beach. Thank you for all your help!! :)  ~~Melody

From Portland to Homosassa.  Yikes.  You will experience some culture shock as you adjust to life in the "real" Florida.  I'm a Native, so I can talk about these things, lol.  Prepare yourself for small towns with one red light and your only shopping opportunity is WalMart.  There are no coffee shops.  There are no nice restaurants.  Roadside smoked mullet and boiled peanuts.  Beall's outlet.  Drive thru liquor stores.  Rednecks.  Endless cow fields, palmetto scrub, and piney oaks.

I don't know about beaches but you are a stones throw from Weeki Wachi and Florida's natural springs!!  That's where I'd go swimming if it were me!  Check out Hart Springs, Manatee Springs, etc. about an hour's drive north of where you'll be.  Get a truck and a boat or an atv and live like a local, lol.

There's a big ol' nuclear power plant near Crystal River, btw.

Do you homeschool?  Definitely check out the school system where you'll be... (because if you don't home/unschool now, you might want to start).
