I made this soup tonight . . . my kids have a bit of a cold still lingering . . .

Broccoli and Potato, vegan and gluten-free soup
In a pot with an inch or so of water, simmer until extremely soft:

3 new potatoes, sliced thinly

Add and simmer a bit longer:

1 cup cooked garbanzo beans
2 teaspoons yellow curry powder
4 cups water

Add:

8 cups fresh broccoli, chopped finely
Pinch nutmeg
Dash of dill
Salt and black pepper to taste
A generous squeeze of lemon

Optional: Cayenne, chili powder or pepper flakes.

When I'm sick, I make a soup - no recipe, to taste - with dried shiitakes simmered in water, plus (lots of) garlic, ginger, soy sauce & extras like broccoli or spinach, noodles, tofu, etc. and a lot of chili-garlic sauce, fresh chilies or sriracha sauce.

If it needs to be GF, the soy sauce can be subbed with salt and use rice noodles & check the tofu.

I just did lemon lentil rice when I had a cold.  I also like miso with udon noodles.  That one sounds good, too.  Thanks for sharing

I love any kind of soup really but when I make it especially in cold/sick times, I usually just do tons of different veggies with broth (I love Bryanna's home made 'chicken broth' using nutritional yeast). Little bit of noodles, rice, barley or quinoa added and done.

Miso soup is a big hit here, at any time.  I usually sauté some onion and garlic as the base of the soup, but if anyone is feeling a bit ill, I up the amount of garlic a bit.  Garlicy miso sounds weird but it's really good.

Matzo ball soup is delicious when you're ill.  Make the matzo balls, then add to a veggie soup of your desire.  Sometimes I use only onion, garlic, carrot and celery.  Other times I add all sorts of veggies, including broccoli, green beans, zucchini, whatever I have handy.
