Midwife and OB suggest I start smoking...

I've been to two appointments so far with my new midwifery practice. At my first, after hearing that my first baby was 8lbs, and my second was 9lbs 2oz, the midwife suggested I take up smoking. Completely joking, of course! Then today at my second appointment (I'm almost 16 weeks now), the OB also reacted the same way after discussing my previous two deliveries. She also added, "Maybe some cocaine?"

I appreciate the humor, but some women might be offended by the suggestions!  Anyway, I'm happy with them in their support of my VBA2C. I just think it's funny how they react with the same suggestions of taking up smoking to help my baby stay small! My midwife also said, "Well, you should probably go into labor earlier than 42 weeks this time. That will make it easier." Right.. Well... What do you want me to do about it? She wasn't suggesting induction, but just saying we should hope for it! I know they are great women to work with, so I'm not worried. They are just having too much fun with their jobs!

My first was 8 even, my second was 9lbs 3 oz and my third was 10 lbs.  My c-section was #2 and had nothing to do with size.

Yes, I don't really think size was the problem, either. They just think maybe having a smaller baby would make things easier. Neither of my babies would engage properly in the pelvis and never even came down. Who knows... but no, I won't start smoking...

My OB jokes like this with me too--my 2 that I have delivered with her were 9lb, 8oz and 9lb, 5oz. We laughed extra hard at me measuring behind (never over 36cm) for fundal height when we were darn sure there'd be a biggun' in there.  But yes, I am like you. Short of smoking or something, I just grow them big. And past 41w. At least my OB now is darn sure this is my "normal". It's good to have practitioners who know you--look at that as the silver lining, right?
