curls from wool yarn?

I am making a simple rag doll, but want her to have blond curls.  I have natural colored wool yarn that I want to dye using rit, and then thinking of winding the dyed, rinsed, wet yarn around chopsticks or something and trying to felt it like that to make curls.  Do you think this will work??!! I am wondering if I should first knit long thin strands (like eye-cords) before wrapping and felting, but not sure if that will make the curls more like dreadlocks? 

I don't wanna waste yarn and don't have a ton of time for experimenting on this, so I would be very appreciative if any of you can offer help and advise on making curly hair from wool yarn!  Please and thank you.

I've had the best luck with buying boucle yarn (which already looks curly) or unraveling an old knitted project of the right colour.

Knit your yarn together then wet it good and let it dry. When you unravel the knitting, the yarn will be good and curly.
