Maternity/nursing bras in 'unusual' sizes?

Thread Starter

Of all bra sizes a woman could wear...I wear a 28F.

It's actually not particularly uncommon. But most women who wear a similar size to me squish their breasts into 32D or 34C bras, because those are the ones that are sold in stores. I could write a long piece about bra sizing and why the most common method is inaccurate, but that's not the topic of this thread orngbiggrin.gif

No, the problem is that, while I'm only four weeks in and not shopping for maternity bras yet, soon my breasts are going to be exploding and I'll need some! And maternity and nursing bra makers, alas, rarely make bras sized for women who've broken out of what one blogger 'affectionately' orngbiggrin.gif calls the Bra Matrix and are wearing band sizes smaller and cup sizes bigger than the usual ones sold.

A band I found and absolutely love, called Hot Milk, makes adorable nursing bras, but they only go down to a 34 band size. I've heard of tying knots in bra bands, but I'm not quite sure about that...

Does anybody have any store suggestions (online stores, please) or help with band knot tying?

don't know where you live, but there are bra stores here (NYC) that will alter bras and make the bands narrower for you. "The Town Shop" is one I go to and really like, they do mail order too though not sure they do alterations for that (you might have to call). But its also worth asking if you have a more high end type store around you that sells bras.

personally I didn't wear special maternity bras, just regular bras (needed to size up) and then switched to nursing bras later.

http://www.biggerbras.com/index.shtml  is one of my favourite stores.  I am also an odd size and I will order my nursing bra from them soon.  I have heard really good things about their store.  That would be one option.  I don't know of any other stores that carry a size 28 band though, there are a few more stores out there for odd sizes but none that I personally know :(  sorry.  Good luck.

I just want to correct for other readers that Hot Milk goes down to a 32.  I know for sure because that's what I wear and I have about 6 Hot Milk bras.

I can only imagine your challenges! I found it difficult enough to find a 34g/h in a nursing bra.  I am filing away the Hot Milk recommendation in case I need it sometime in the future!

I wear a 38H now, at 12 weeks I have no clue what I will do for a nursing bra. The specialty store I shop at (the only one around) said most of their nursing bras only go up to H. It should be interesting.

I have a few nursing bras that I no longer need. They are smaller band and pretty big cups. Wouldn't mind sending them to somebody in need.
