Not long after I posted in the chat thread last night, I took my midwife's advice and headed for bed to get some rest and wait for things to happen in their own time. Of course, being all worked up, I couldn't sleep. But before long, I started getting REAL contractions, lasting 1.5-2 min and making me breathe and moan through them. Tracked them for about an hour and a half, and I had a couple jump suddenly to around 5 min apart. Called the midwife again and asked her tram to head over- the way they were making me feel made me inclined to think it wouldn't take much longer. MW lives about 5 min away from me, and by the time the first team member arrived, I was dealing with what I'm sure was transition- a bit of shakiness, contractions that were stopping me in my tracks, and a much more serious demeanor. By the time equiplent was all set up and plastic put on the floor, I was feeling like any minute I was going to feel pushy. I was right. Just a few minutes later and I was grunting through contractions. I swear I pushed longer this time than with my other births, and I hated it! I never did feel like "I can't do this anymore!"-- only "I don't WANT to do this anymore! Somebody make it stop!!" Anyway, he finally came out after 15-20 min of pushing, much to my relief. He started crying even before his entire body was out. I had been kneeling by my bed, and they put him right between my legs on the floor. He was so small compared to my last baby! I just set on the floor and held him for a good long time. I very nearly cried, I was so relieved and happy!
I tore only the slightest bit, though it's easy to tell my bottom is not happy with all the pressure and pushing it got. I swear it felt like I was pooping out a bowling ball instead of birthing a baby. Anyway, baby - still unnamed- arrived this morning (the 29th) at 2:11am, and is 8lb 6oz, my smallest baby yet! 20.5 inches, 14in head, and looks a lot like DS2, I think! He was born at 39w1day, also my earliest baby! We're both doing well, though he is a very sleepy baby so far. He didn't really give nursing an honest try until almost 8am this morning (which has caused me some slight anxiety!). We did manage to sleep soundly between 5-7:30am.
. Big sibs are over the moon in love with him, but they only had a short chance to meet before we shuffled 2 off to school and one off to grandma's house. Now to get some sleep, with my sweet little guy bundled up next to me!!
Hope this picture works- I'm trying to post this from my iPod!
ETA: Eventually I'll come back and write a more complete, all-in-one birth story, but for now, I wanted to share more pictures.
Here's a link to my facebook album
And here are some videos, a couple just of Malcolm, some with the big sibs:
