I woke up with my first contraction at 3:30AM on Sept 29th. The next rush came ten minutes later, then the next was 8 min, then 5 min, then 3 min, and then 1 minute. For the rest of my labor the rushes were 1 minute with 1 minute in between. It was really not that painful, although it was uncomfortable enough for me to want to stay in the bathtub nearly the whole time. I was ready to push after about an hour, and pushed a little here and there when the urge hit me. By 6:00AM, transition had occurred and the pushing was full-force. Wolfgang was born at 7:00AM exactly, came out of me pink and cried as soon as his head was out of the water! He nursed immediately. I did not tear or anything (which was a big fear for me) and my girly parts are incredibly hale and happy. I am so surprised that it doesn't even hurt to pee. My son is amazingly peaceful and strong and BEAUTIFUL! This was an unassisted childbirth and I will never forget the intimacy of it just being the three of us (DH, DS, and myself) at that moment when we became a family. The sun was rising outside the bathroom window and the candlelight was glowing around us as Wolfgang opened his eyes and stared at us as we stared at him. The placenta came an hour later, without excessive bleeding or any problems. Adding to the perfection, this event occurred in the cabin in the forest that my husband built (with help from loved ones) for our family in my last trimester, on the same land where we were wed 2 1/2 years ago. All together, my birth into motherhood was PERFECT.
