Mami: Great pics!  What a beautiful family you have, and Christmas looks like it was really special and enjoyable.

Seraf: Yay! Sara is home, right?  Hope you are enjoying the reunion.

AFM: Lilah had her best day of her short 5 month life today.  We're in FL.  She was happy, napped on me and in the wrap during a long walk on the beach, and was super friendly and comfy with my extended family. She squealed and laughed with her great-grandparents and even smiled during a group picture that I had to wake her up for.  She didn't even cry in the car.  I've decided that she is a happy and peaceful baby.  Even happy, peaceful babies have hard moments and bad days, right?  She was such a pleasure to be with today, and while I certainly wouldn't expect her to be so calm all the time, it was wonderful.  I think it is the ocean air.  Sigh.  How did I end up raising my kids in the middle of the country?  Night, everyone!

Mami, they are stinking cute.  How are you feeling?

AmandaHope, the coasts wouldn't be nearly so lovely if everyone lived there.  We still need cool folk in the middle to shake things up.  I'm thrilled to hear she is having such an easy time.

You know I love sleeping baby pics.  I got a new wrap in Florida.  Thrift store.  Two bucks.  The kid is pretty cute, too.  We got up for the solstice to watch the sunrise.  It was chilly and windy, so he was all wrapped up.  I almost took a picture of the horizon reflecting on his cornea but decided I would wait until the sun really started coming up. He was asleep by then.  It was a pretty sight.  So this picture is back in the car after that adventure before I unwrapped and buckled him in.

1324768697.jpg

When we decided to swim, SIL and I went into the changing room and there was no place to put babies while we changed.  So here I had both boys so she could change.  They're 3 weeks apart. Shay is slightly bigger but a total floppy newborn next to his cousin who is stiff as a board.  It was so cute, you can sit Shay on the couch and he will last a few seconds before toppling over.  DC(cousin) keeps his legs out straight all the time so you have to stand him on the couch.  Just lean him back against the cushion and he will stand there until you pick him back up.  The boys look nothing alike.  DC looks like his mom, but is bald like our side of the family.

1324768816.jpg

At the beach Grandma was shading both boys from the sun.  They kept smiling at her but we didn't get a picture of a smile.  The wind was blowing so hard that they both got tangled in the flower wrap.  Laying on the new stripe wrap and he fell asleep in his plaid sling.  Nothing matches.  It's great.  He was a happy boy, tho.

Last night we did Christmas with my mom and sister.  Shay is wearing his new underpants, shirt and hat.  Wrapping paper debris was everywhere and the kids kept attacking my sister with silly string which was the hit of the night.

Tonight we're doing Latkas and candles and still more gifts.  The better gifts are tonight.

In a couple of hours we go for the anatomy scan.  Sara is super excited to find out if it's a boy or girl kicking her all the time.  There are conflicting votes in the house.  Ari really wants a sister.  Sara only knows boys.  We all know that we get no say in the matter and we get what we get, but it's been amusing to debate.

Hi all!

Just wanted to say I am loving the photos mami and seraf. I hope everyone is enjoying holidays.

We are visiting and traveling, so I hope to catch up in the new year.

Little update. Man oh man. My hips are sore. This kid kicks alot! and stomach flu plus kicking kid equals NOT FUN!

Hello third trimester. Can I go back a couple weeks and just live in second trimester for a while more???

QOTD - what are your third trimester tips? How do you keep comfy, positive, strong?

Peace to all!

We're here!!!! Hooray! Hoping everyone had lovely holidays with family - Seraf and Mami, those are gorgeous pics of your kids and families!

I guess I should introduce us, huh?  My wife is carrying our first, and we got our BFP on 12/20 at 12 DPO.  We tried for five months, doing unmedicated inseminations at home using frozen sperm.  We are both 25 right now, DW will turn 26 before her EDD and I'll turn 26 just after her EDD.  There's something really empowering about having that actually work out and getting to conceive our first at home.  Hopefully he/she sticks around until August!

We told DW's family a couple nights after the BFP, and we got to tell my family last Friday night.  We have spent the last four nights at a cabin in northern Arizona with my parents and my brother, so we waited to tell them until we got up here.  It was so wonderful!  Everyone is so excited, this will be the first grandbaby on my family's side.  DW's side has several grandbabies already, but so far only boys.  We're (not so) secretly hoping for the first girl just so we can have the first girl, but we'll be thrilled with whomever comes out of there.

So, Isa, can you add us to the roster?  EDD is August 30th!  Thanks!  Looking forward to getting to "know" you all a little better!

Hi everyone! I'm home safe and sound. Jet lag on the home side is so much worse than it was when we got in! I'll post more about Israel tonight!

I just wanted to post some good news! We just got back from our 20 week check up! The baby is measuring great and everything looks healthy! He is measuring about 2 Oz bigger than the weekly emails we are getting! The first shot the ultrasound tech showed us it looked like a girl but while the scan was going she got some full on boy bit shots and it's surely a boy! I'm so so so excited! I think ari is a bit bummed though. Osh said "another one ?!". My dad is thrilled and I can't get a hold of my mom or sister to tell them yet. They said I'm on the low side for liquids in the amniotic sac so I've been strictly advised to drink more fluids.

Hi to everyone! I missEd you all lots!

If no one else wants to, I'll be the thread keeper for the next three months!

More to come!

Oh Sara ... Wonderful news that the scan looks great!  And it brings tears to my eyes to know that you and Seraf are going to be raising three boys.  They are going to be such wonderful men!  The world needs Wonderful Men!

Welcome, Desert!  What exciting news to be able to share with your families over the holidays.  Sticky vibes for your little one:  dust.gifMay you and your partner have a happy and healthy pregnancy!

Sara ... Love the picture of the double slingin'!  I wish we'd been in Florida on the beach.  It's been nothing but grey rain here.

Mami, what a gorgeous little tribe you have there.  Thanks for sharing the pictures!

AFM:  My parents went home.  Before they did, I told my mom that I'm not hosting Christmas next year.  It'll just be us four, and then perhaps we'll do a Boxing Day open house or some such thing.  Our living area is so small (maybe 400sq ft including the kitchen and living room?) and there were just too many opinionated, strong-willed women in it with my mom, my partner, my sister and her girlfriend and our dd.  Add my grumpy, decrepit, drunk stepdad and it's just a zoo.  Should be much more peaceful and restful next year!  DD was really cute on Christmas morning, she came downstairs (I was videotaping) and took one look at the presents under the tree and climbed up into my DP's arms and cowered there for several minutes, clearly overwhelmed and perhaps a little creeped out at the idea of jolly St. Nick coming into her house in the middle of the night.  Here I was hoping to catch her unbridled glee on tape. Funny!

Sara--Congrats! Yay for a healthy scan and another boy for your family! That's great news. Welcome back stateside too. Can't wait to hear about the trip to Israel. I hope you've been feeling better and that the m/s is gone for good.

OMOM--Hi! 3rd trimester already! Can you believe it. I know we're not too far apart so it'll be fun to compare stories. 33 weeks is coming upon me tomorrow and all of a sudden it feel like time is racing. Sorry to hear about the stomach bug--yuck. Our babes will be with us before we know it!

Desert--Welcome! I'm so glad that you joined us. Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas! That is so awesome that your families are so excited for you--it makes my heart sing! Looking forward to hearing more from you as the months go on.

Mami and Seraf--Great pics of your families! Thank you for sharing. Those babies are so precious and sweet!

Starling--Way to set boundaries! I love having our Christmases with just us. May you have an awesome time next year. I loved the snowshoeing pics, btw. That looked like so much fun. I have been half-heartedly bugging DP about getting snowshoes and getting up to the mountain, but have been too lazy to follow through. So, thank you for the inspiration!

Ahope--Sounds like you and L had a lovely time in FL. Happy travels to you! A happy baby is such a relief while on the road.

AFM--We had a wonderful Christmas! It was fun seeing DD so excited. We had such a great day. We drove up to Seattle yesterday to spend time with friends and had amazing food, good company and a great time. It was also yesterday when I realized how pregnant I actually am and that there are a TON of things I need to do in order to get prepared--stay on top of Hypnobirthing stuff, choose birthing music and get it downloaded, choose window treatments and bedding for nursery so it looks like a baby's room and not a guest room, decline my incredibly sweet and well-meaning (yet odd) neighbor's request to throw me a shower (I've never even been in her house) since my BF is throwing me one at my house in a few weeks, wash baby laundry, call insurance company about breast pump, think about stuff I need to get for the little one, clean the basement have car serviced in the morning, get to bed now so I can return to work tomorrow morning...g'night all.

Good morning all.

Honestly, I felt overwhelmed.  Drink lots of water, know where the nearest bathroom is, have good posture always.  Those helped me a lot.  I got to give up my body pillows once I got huge.  Get creative when it comes to lifting small children.  It was easier for me bend a knee for A to stand on than lift her to a water fountain or have her climb up on a chair and then me sit on it to get her on my back if she needed carried.  I totally avoided lifting her for a month after S was born and now she is soooooo heavy.

Keeping positive, I just talked to him a lot.  I'm kind of absurdly positive as it is.  I counted kicks if I was nervous.

Are we all keeping to one thread?  Would the pregnant ladies like it to be mostly pregnant posters or are y'all happy with the way it is?  I know I was a loud voice for keeping the new moms in the thread, but now that I'm on the other side, I'm happy to respect the wishes of the rest of the group (not that I wasn't before).

Thank you.  So sweet.

And wowza on the holiday hosting in a small space.  Perfectly reasonable to pass.  Funny your DD was so overwhelmed with gifts.  My mom and sister kept trying to get the kids to open faster because they had to play with everything before opening the next gift.

A clean basement is a priority?  It's funny, the farther along I got the more I went, "Gee, I'm going to be out of commission a week?  I think that can slide." Tho I did disassemble the faucet to clean it and I put off making lots of food just one day too long.

Seraf and AHope—glad you had fun in FL—I find being on the beach makes me smile my face off, too. And I’m glad Lilah enjoyed her vacation! I think having health problems would make even the most calm person crabby—as she gets older you’ll probably just see more and more happy, peaceful daughter and less in-pain discomfort, I hope! Oh, and Seraf—I love the hannukah pictures! Such a lovely family!

Mami—they’re so cute in their matching jammies! Oh, and the bows and monster slippers are hilarious! I can’t believe I’m going to have a kid next year for Christmas!

OMOM—Oh. I’m getting there with you—the hips are starting to hurt and this kid has (gleefully, I imagine) figured out how to kick me both in the cervix and behind my ribs. What it’s going to be like when s/he gets stronger and quadruples in size, I have no idea.

Desert—done and dusted! Welcome on over!

Sara—yay for a boy! And yay for threadkeeper—I was just about to ask who wanted to take over. I’ll email you the list.

Starling—ha! poor kid—maybe she was just afraid of all the relatives? I agree—a nuclear family Christmas sounds like heaven. I hope you get it with no arguments from anyone else!

Qmama—tell you what, I’m just going to copy your list and pretend it’s mine, since I think all of that has to get done around here, too. I found a really great deal on a medela pump if you need to buy one without insurance, just let me know and I’ll forward you the info—it’s brand new, in perfect working order (well, as far as I can tell without actually popping it on) and half price. I can’t believe you’re almost to term already!

As to keeping us all on one thread—I like it this way. I feel like queer and newborn kind of fizzled out because everyone got busy and then when you have a chance to say hi there’s no one else there to talk to—whereas this thread seems like good support for those of us who are preggo (plus I LOVE the advice from all of you new and seasoned mamas!) while still being an active chat for those with babies whenever you’ve got the energy to post. Honestly, the only thing I wonder is if there’s a way to incorporate moms with older kids somewhere—I always feel bad when new people come to the site with 3 year olds or older and don’t really find much community because there’s not a regular meeting place for them. But that’s a separate issue. In any case, I’d like y’all to stick around, but I’d understand if everyone else wants a separation of preggo and new-mom.

AFM—well, the urge to eat ALL. THE. TIME. has kicked in. I’m trying to be reasonable, but it’s hard. Though when my stepgrandma asked if I was ‘eating for two’ now as I reached for a carrot stick, I wanted to throttle her right then and there.

Oh I am woefully behind but I will try to catch up while the babe is asleep.

Desert: Welcome! Looking forward to enjoying your guys' pregnancy with you!

Isa: Are you really 25 weeks?! That is amazing, I always get excited when I reach that point, babies are fairly likely to survive if born at around 25 week.s (not that we want that to happen of course) but it always feels relieving. Belly pic? I think you should eat whatever you want. But that is just me!

Sara: Yay!! I cant wait to meet that little cutie and see him and Shay grow up together! See you Monday.

OMOM: I complained a lot. I think my only happy time was when I was in the shower. Take a lot of showers (baths are great as long as your can get out!) and drink a ton of water.

Seraf: So jealous of your FL trip, glad you had fun.

Ahope: It sounds like Lilah is really in a fun place right now!

Starling: Lennon reacted the same way last year and this year it was ON! He was beside himself with glee. It was a blast.

AFM: Rough times right now in the Firestone home. Harrison has gone from sleeping 2 hour stretches to less than an hour at a time. I have acquired insomnia which I haven't suffered from in  several years  and am getting about 2 hours a night of sleep. We have tried everything we can think of to help him sleep longer, I am taking him to the dr today to see if maybe it is reflux. He is only averaging 8-9 hours a day (total) which i know is not enough for his little brain. I am stressed and over tired and panicking as I tend to do. It just seems his sleep has really sucked since I got him that stupid fing Dtap. I am so done with vaccines. Just not worth the stress.  Hoping the doc has a magical answer. I have tried swaddling, nursing on demand, limiting nursing, burping, elevating bed, changning diapers, tylenol, gripe water, teething tablets, white noise, complete dark, sleeping in a different room, EVERYTHING I can think of. Anyone else have any sage advice?

We took place in the target nurse in today, it was pretty neat. Really I didn't do anything different, I always pop a squat and nurse when in the stores, my back isn't healthy enough to stand and do it for long. But there were 5 other moms there, and I heard at other locations it got great press! Pretty cool stuff if you ask me! Annnnddd.. pictures.

018.JPG Hahah, this one cracks me up,

044.JPG Our little elf!!

134.JPG Look at that dimply butt!!

100.JPG Lennon's fake smile on xmas morning, we kept making him take pics! Haha...poor kid ;)

hi all, loving all the photos!!!  all the trips here and there sound great...and congrats sara on your baby BOY!  :)

mizyellow, no advice i'm afraid..you've already tried everything i can think of.  i hope he gets to sleeping well again soon.

afu, we had an ob appt this morning.  no progression, dp's blood pressure is great, baby is moving around a lot.  ds2 was 40w+5 so we're really not surprised.  we have another appt on tuesday and one set up for the following friday too.  saturday dp has an acupuncture appt and she'll also start taking epo (that helped last time).  our ob mentioned the 'i" word and we hope to avoid that again.  it wouldn't be until the week after next though.  we hit 40 weeks on friday.

thanks everyone for the great wishes for our little boy!

I'm so damn glad today is almost over! We went hiking at old man's cave today, which was great! I had shay in the wrap on my front and we (shay and I) had a lovely time huffing and puffing about the path. Then we went to get ice cream (because the pregnant lady thought ice cream in late december was a great idea!). Then I went to the bathroom and wiped and there was a bit of blood and some in my unders too. It freaked me out to no end. I walked out and told everyone we had to leave NOW and then told Sara. We got in the car and called the doc and they got me in right away. When the nurse came in to the room to listen to the little guy on the doppler she had a hard time finding his heartbeat on the doppler. I was about to start bawling when she finally found it. Then I started crying cuz she found it. Then the doc came in and checked me out. My cervix is all closed up and there was nothing she could see bleeding but there was a bit more blood in me. Then it was ultra sound time. Since we had just been there, the tech said "you can't stay away, can you?". She said the little guy is having lots of good movements and my fluids look better already. She said everything is fine and sometimes women just bleed. I have an anterior placenta so thats why I'm not feeling a bunch of movement yet but she said I should feel more in the next ten days or so (I can't wait). The doc said she would tell me to try to take it easy but doesn't think I would anyways because we're so active. She said don't worry and to come back in 4 weeks as normal!

I was beside myself for about 3 hours and it still seems surreal. I hope today never happens again and cannot imagine what it would be like to have it happen more than just the little bit today.

Sara- My heart nearly stopped at the beginning of the story but slowly began to beat at normal pace as I continued to read. We are so glad that your lil boys heart beat was finally found on the doppler. I would agree with the doc and take it easy just a little bit until the blood episodes pass. We are rooting for you and have been since the beginning and we can't wait to see your sons' beautiful face.

P.S. Please don't ever scare us like that again!!!!

Sara--What a terrible scare! I am soooo relieved that you and the little one are okay! Healthy, happy, uneventful vibes to you for the rest of this pregnancy, mama!

Sara--What an awful scare! I'm so relieved that he's fine in there and doing well. I have an anterior placenta, too, and although it took longer to feel the kicking, it has definitely gotten easy to feel now, so don't worry! In a couple weeks he'll be able to reassure you that everything is ok all on his own! I hope you were able to get some rest last night even with the worry!

Just wait until you have the room in your stomach to eat properly again.  I thought I was eating a lot before S was born and now it's just about impossible to keep up.

No good advice.  Routine, lots of naps (ha ha), camomile tea.  My SIL is swearing by the sleepy time baby soap, tho I have never tried it.  That sounds miserable. How did the doctor visit go?

Are you doctored out yet?  So busy.  I'm glad everything is going well.  It seems wrong to bring up induction before she even hits 40 weeks.  Still feeling good?

Thanks to everyone for the concern.  Sara hasn't had any bleeding since.  She feels occasional movement.  Yesterday was a very emotional day but today has been better.
