How do I get the kitty pee smell out of my wood floor?Is it even possible?

I just cleaned out my attic.Everything had been destroyed by a couple of kitties that have since passed on :( ,and some of the old(100+years) painted wood floor has been affected.There was a kitty box in the corner at one time,and so there is traces of scoopable litter and a strong pee smell.I want to move my bedroom up there,as currently I am sleeping in half of my double parlor,and this space is much bigger and I'd actually have a little privacy.I need to get the floor cleaned asap.I'm going to scrub the corner on my hands and knees,but I was wondering if there is something specific I should be using.It hasn't been peed on in quite a few years,even with the smell none of my current kitties have made a mess there.I didn't realise how bad it was until I moved things.I want to get my stuff up there this weekend while I have help from my dad to carry up the bed and dresser.The bed has to go on the floor as it's just 2 mattresses.I'm not going to put the bed in that corner of course,but I'd like to clean the whole floor very well.Any ideas would be great!I'm going shopping today,so I'd like to pick up whatever I need then.Thanks so much!!

I'd start with dousing the area very well with baking soda & letting that sit at least overnight before cleaning up. As it is an old smell I'm not sure if it will work.

go buy an enzyme cleaner like nature's miracle or petzyme from a pet store, follow directions on the bottle. If that doesnt work there is a recipe online with vinegar, baking soda and dish soap that works really well. You can also use a vinegar/water mix. The important thing is to not use normal cleaners on it because you need to break the enzymes down to be able to get rid of the smell.

Thanks!I did end up buying an enzyme cleaner,and it worked great!I also washed half of the floor twice and rinsed it last night.I just went up there and there is very little smell,but I think that is coming from the stairway which has a kitty box on it.So I'm going to finish the floor,do the same for the stairway,and of course clean the kitty box.I think I'll be good after that.Can't wait to get my stuff up there!
