Happy to report that I didn't lose electricity.  Many in my town did, though.

There are kids playing in the snow in my front yard (all girls).  I wish there was a nice boy my son's age for him to play with.  He's so lonely.

It looks like the streets are almost clear at this point (thank goodness for the sun!)

Hope everyone is doing well.

Why can't he play with the girls? They don't get along?

I'm so glad that that's one thing school did not rob from my boy-- he has an incredible ability to play well with kids of all ages and genders. His best friend is a girl and he plays well with kids from 3-15yo. AND he doesn't care about what he wears, or his hairstyle love.gif I'm sure middle school will change that, but so far, I'm happy!

Glad you didn't lose power. Now to hear from witchy and Clay and redveg. M's brother is in southern VT and he has power, but a foot of snow. M's town had 11-1/2"!!!

There is very little left on the ground here... it was a nasty slushy mess (I'm less than a mile from the river & Long Island Sound), but travel 20 minutes north and wow, I have friends with well over a foot of snow.  There are pocket of no power around my state but we were lucky there too.

We are just going to snuggle in, (well I have papers to write) and ignore the mess outside.

We had an inch and a half of snow. That was it!!! But we lost power at 1 am this morning. Thankfully it was restored at 11:30. We live right by the commuter rail so I think we get priority.

But man, do I have fluid in my ears. I have still have yuckiness in my throat and nose that's been there a week, and my ears just won't drain unless I drug up. I'm hoping the chiro tomorrow will help.

post #205 of 217

just popping in between celebrations to say HI !

We had just enough snow yesterday to dust and stick, maybe about an inch.  Took Z on her very first winter wonderland walk as I like to refer to them as.  It was so weird to see the Norwegian Maple in the backyard covered in snow.  Some of her leaves are still green!

Sending everyone lots of warmth, even you, Cari, in your spring-filled southern hemisphere!

Oh OW, witchy! Feel better soon!

Witchy- fluid in the ears is awful. I know rice/salt socks are supposed to help. Hope you feel better soon!

Didn't go to the Mass yesterday... and couln'd bring myself to call my father about it either...

DD2 changed her mind... she won't be Pippi tonight... she'll wear a Fairy costume a friend gave her yesterday. I'll finish the Pippi apron anyway - it'll go in the costume pail for future pretend play. wink1.gif

Ktg I would love to have a posh coffee with you... even in 'spring' .. which is a joke since it was 31C here the other day lol.  My 7yo is loving school, he's flourishing and learning so well (I struggled helping him learn to read, we got nowhere!  but when he went to school he really picked it up wonderfully!  He's churning through the leveled reading books.. he started out with A and is now up to I !!)  My 9yo is NOT doing well.. academically he is on par... but socially he is miserable.  He was diagnosed a few months ago with adhd and a sensory integration disorder, and he has been ostracized and excluded by the other kids at school.   The school did try to help him fit in better, but it was too little too late.  He'll be coming home to learn again soon :)  I'm writing his plan now!

Wonderful news about your 7yo, so glad he is doing well in school and loving it.  I wish your 9yo was having a better time:(  It's heartbreaking to watch a child go through difficult times socially, we see all the good that's in them, all they have to offer and want others to see it too.  I hope things get better for him.  I hope he finds a group that accepts him and he flourishes:)

We got about 14", maybe 16" of snow.  The winds were brutal!  Thankfully we did not lose power here, had my generator ready to go just in case:)  There were tons of accidents all over town.  All in all things were pretty good here.

They don't want to play with him.  He loves girls but he needs to branch out and try to connect with other boys.

Oh, sad. Mean girls! My boy plays pretty equally with everybody, and they play pretty equally with him. His best friend is a girl, and she alternates btw girly-girl and tomboy (and sometimes both at once, if you can imagine), so they get along pretty well. MOST of the time. They're more like brother and sister-- and y'all know what that can mean eyesroll.gif

Blessed Samhain to all of you, as well! We had our ancestor dinner last night, ds and I. We put photos of my dad, ds's dad, M's parents, and my aunt on my mother's side. We made a mish-mosh of foods that each of them liked, and some that we like, too (hot wings lol.gif ) DS actually made it through a Dumb Two Minutes (looking at the timer for the last 30 seconds) lol.gif

Blessed Samhain all.... may our memories bring peace, may our shadows hold hope, and may we all find balance in the journey.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
the weekend went all wonky... dh had to go into the lab Sat so basically that whole day was shot,  We did what we could on Sun but we didn't even finish the "gotta do winter prep" stuff on the list, let alone the "wanna do crafty stuff" or the "kinda important for Clay stuff".  I felt so bad for DH...Sat was really frustrating for everyone, and then last night ds was a total monster to DH.  I mean, just horrible.  Crying and screaming and hitting and kicking and just being mean...all night long (well, from about 10pm till around 7am).  DH was actually in tears over how he felt like he was such a bad parent;/bad partner.  :(  It was a tough weekend for everyone, but really harsh for him.
The kids are driving me nuts too today with their obsessive picking over of their costumes.  Pick pick pick pick pick!  I'm going crazy!  I don't have anything ready for dinner tonight, we have no idea where we're going to trick or treat, and I'm going to throw the whole thing out the window the next time someone complains about or wants to further embelish their constumes.  LOL
Fingers crossed everyone has fun tonight.  We have to visit my mom at 8:30pm when she gets off work and since the kids usually go to bed by 8... this is gonna be tough!
Happy Samhain! We celebrated with a service at church yesterday. We asked members to bring pictures of their loved ones, and we lit candles and called to different grains- flour, rice, millet, and corn. It was a very powerful service for many people and I helped lead it.
We didn't do traditional trick or treating at all, but honestly, I didn't miss it. We had fun with the cousins yesterday and Saturday was a party at the college. Not to mention the homeschool party.
post #214 of 217
We did trick or treating but nothing else today (weekdays have finite time, kwim?). We were going to do something yesterday, but things fell through. We will probably do something tomorrow, just talking with the kids about what Samhain means for us. Nothing too in-depth or ritualized (with a 1 yo and 5 yo?). I did a podcast on rituals with Pagan's Tonight, also... I'm a busy witch!
post #215 of 217
T-o-T was fun. DD2 went as a Fairy (was taken for an Angel most of the time). DS was a very handsome werewolf!
I didn't do any ritual beside having a small glass of wine and making a silent cheer to my deceased family members. I want to write a letter today... and burn it in the fireplace.
We went Trick or Treating. My son-- MY son, mind you-- said the following: "I'm tired. I'm done. Can we go home now? I can't wait to curl up in my bed" bigeyes.gif
I was like, HELL yeah! lol.gif
So we came home and the two kids spent some time trading candy while the mom and I had a cup of tea. They were getting way too sugar-high-overtired-wild so I sent them home. Slept like a log, and overslept the alarm! I think it didn't go off, and who knows why, but glad I got ds off to school on time. I think we'll both go to bed early tonight.
I don't know why but we've both been feeling Christmassy early-- I think over the next couple days, I'm going to clean, really clean, to get ready, and then start decorating. It's November! Time to start a new thread! 16 days till my birthday, and 22 days till I see M again! joy.gif
Started a new thread! I don't know how to link to it, though, so y'all will have to go searching orngtongue.gif
