Tongue Tie assistance in Minnesota

Hi mamas,

I'm posting this on behalf of my cousin, currently living in Apple Valley, MN. He has a 5-day-old son, and it sounds like the little guy might be tongue tied (I've been trying to help the mama with breastfeeding advice long-distance from Connecticut). If they don't get a diagnosis from their peds, is there another doctor or dentist in the area that does tongue tie diagnosis and clipping?

Additionally, any recommendations for a chiropractor that does pediatric work (especially Craniosacral) in that same area would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, mamas!

I don't have an suggestions for the tongue tie issue but I have a great chiro that does cranial work.  My little guy is 11 weeks and has been going to Dr Jessica at Lakepointe since he was a couple weeks old and her work did wonders for his latch.  I was in misery his latch was so bad I actually thought maybe he had tonge tie but he's soo much better.  I guess he had some tight jaw issues from his acyniclitic position.

Anyhoo here's the link for the chiro  http://www.lpwellness.com/

I hope she gets the help she needs.

A lactation counselor should be able to refer her to a health care provider who can help - and provide some feedback regarding the extent to which the baby can extend his tongue (I don't think the LC can officially diagnosis it - but would probably have an idea if that is the problem by examining the baby.)

Few medical providers have extensive training in breastfeeding - they just don't look for these things - tell her to contact a LC - in the hospital where she gave birth - or find a private LC through the Childbirth Collective -  I know the procedure sounds a little barbaric - but the relief from the procedure is nearly instant - and prevents a lot of soreness and frustration with breastfeeding.

I hope she finds some help!

I am not far at all from your cousin!  I live less than a mile from Apple Valley.  If she hasn't yet, she should have the tongue tie and latch checked out by an IBCLC.  I highly recommend Chris Clark out of St. Paul (she can be found by searching here by zip code:

she comes to your house for visits and also does craniosacral therapy!

My 5yo had tongue tie and had it clipped at Metropolitan Pediatric Specialists which is in Burnsville also close to AV.  At the time there was one doctor there who did the clipping, maybe he is still there.  Not many docs do the procedure anymore.

For regular chiropractic we go to Dr. Nick at Rapp Chiropractic in Rosemount which is also close by.  He has had training for children/babies and our DD's first visit out of the house 4 days after she was born was to Dr. Nick.
