Hi.  My husband is familiar with what to do during a seizure and what drugs can be administered during a prolonged seizure (he worked on an ambulance for 6 years) but we are new to the world of diagnosis and seizure cause and treatment.  We have a 2 year old (adopted) whom we just learned his medical history is including that he had febrile seizures and they put him on anti-seizure meds (in Eastern Europe) for that.  Then he had a 6 hour surgery and shortly after that had a seizure (in July) and then just recently in the beginning of September he had a 3 minute seizure that knocked him out and then the day before we met him in mid-September they reported that he had a mild seizure (30-60 seconds).  They think the recent seizures are the result of the drugs to put him under during surgery.  We don't know yet.  We haven't seen him or heard further reports of him having seizures - but then they did "up" his dose of anti-seizure meds since then.

Our current plan is to keep him on the med they have him on at the exact dose and time they've given to us - at least until we can have him evaluated by someone once we are home in the states and then if we have the okay I assume we are supposed to SLOWLY decrease his meds, as I'm reading with-drawls from the meds can actually cause seizures as well.

Is anyone familiar with seizures in young children, possibly brought on after surgery (we think the febrile seizures came on as a result of an infection)?  I'm trying to find out if there is anything we can do to help him heal if the seizures are the effect of the surgery drugs, or just time?
