Unassisted homebirthers

I believe I saw in another thread that we have a few u/a birthers among us. I had 4 hospital births followed by three wonderful homebirths with a fantastic midwife. This go round I am receiving hospital prenatal care with the intent to deliver at home when it comes time. My husband is totally on board and wants to know what books I want him to read. This is a huge change from the past when he would level a crazy look at me when I brought up u/a.

My biggest concern right now is how to get the rhogam  shot after the birth without fuss. I don't imagine just showing up at the ER and asking for it wold go over very well. Hopefully baby will be o- like 6 of their siblings and it won't be an issue anyhow, but still.

Antone else going this way. I feel very comfortable with the plan. I just feel really alone about it too. I wish we could afford my midwife again but we are doing a strict get out of debt budget and really can't.

If you do all your prenatal with the hospital, can you go into the hospital and say you "oops" delivered at home, super quick?

Yes, but I don't want to bring the baby. I'm sure that is what I will end up doing, just not sure the practicality. :)

Do you know for sure that you need the Rhogam?

I am a Rh- mama too. We also waited and tested DS after birth to see if the shot was necessary.  Any chance you could order it or have a mw order it for you and just keep it in the fridge until you test your child's cord blood at birth?  I know there is a 72 hr window but that doesn't really help with your question.  My mw seemed to think I could order it online (canada maybe?) at one point and offered one from someone else's birth that didn't need it. Maybe your previous mw would know of someone that might or might not use theirs?

HI! wave.gif

I'm an unassisted birther:) I'm doing my own prenatal care this go around as well. I am seeing my family Dr. for a req's for blood tests(iron etc)but that's about it. I'm usually anti u/s as well but I've decided to go into an u/s office(one of those non diagnostic places) to take a quick peak at babe(make sure there is just one, where my placenta is located, etc...just for peace of mind to continue on the UP path). I had mw care with my last babe but had a planned UC with him. I feel very comfortable with my decision as does my DH:) We will have my very close friend(also a doula) here with us. I attended her UC this past April :D

It's starting to really sick in that I'm going to have another baby...I'm not really ready to be honest. Plus I'm hating this morning sickness which is really not letting me enjoy this pregnancy.

Anyway, good to meet another UC'er! xoxo
