CP vax, shedding, and preschool...

DD's preschool asked me to fill out the vaccination exemption form today and I don't think they're going to accept it.  I had to fill it out right then, and really had nothing constructive to write for my reason, other than "We don't feel that these vaccinations are necessary at this time."  Weak, I know.

She's missing her chicken pox vaccination, polio, and Hepatitis B.  If she is to get these vaccinations now, won't she potentially shed CP to her classmates who haven't been vaccinated yet?  I'm so confused.

What state are you in? Your state's law might require the preschool to accept the exemption.

We're in Michigan.  We're also somewhat between pediatricians, more like our pediatrician is never there so we see the PA every.single.time and I haven't talked to her about the vaccinations, only the ped a couple of years ago.

Michigan law: "A child is exempt from this part if a parent, guardian, or person in loco parentis of the child presents a written statement to the administrator of the child's school or operator of the group program to the effect that the requirements of this part cannot be met because of religious convictions or other objection to immunization."

(Section 333.9215)

Your statement would be an "other objection" mentioned in the law.

You can use this form in the future, if you want to.

I'm assuming they gave you this form?

http://www.momvaccines.org/SS_Imm_Wavier_March_2011[1].pdf Many parents don't like that form because of what it says.

The law only requires a "written statement." It does not require the use of any specific form, or any form at all.

It was that form.  I just felt really silly after what I wrote.  I don't have a HUGE philosophical objection to vaccines, I just don't see the point in some of them.  We also thought DD would have immunity to CP until we recently had her titers checked.  Not so.  :(

You should be fine since Michigan allows a philosophical exemption.  The law doesn't state you have to have a HUGE philospohical objection.  You can just have a little philosophical objection.  :)
