I'm wondering if this is a reasonable option for us. ds has 2 pretty nasty, obvious cavities that anyone can see just by looking in his mouth :( Dentist found a 3rd in his exam. His recommendation is GA, after he's under do xrays to see if there's any more he couldn't see  in the exam. Then do the 3 (or more.. depending on xray) fillings, as well as some sealants  on the healthy molars. He said in kids this young, conscious sedation doesn't work well because they're sleepy, but not completely out, and when they have to get more "aggressive" in their mouth with more serious work they tend to fight it. So I had the consult and they got to where they showed me the estimated cost (our portion after insurance). It would be in the ballpark of $300. I was momentarily relieved, since I expected it to be worse. Then she got out a pen and wrote in what the anesthesiologist's fee would be. omg, there's a comma in that number now. and apparently, insurance won't cover that?!  She said "maybe" medical would pick it up, but then when I told her who our carrier is.. eehhh she didn't seem very optimistic. I have no idea how we could possibly afford that. So now I'm looking into conscious sedation and I want to call and talk to them about whether that might be something we could consider. Anyone have any experiences, good or bad, with conscious sedation for a 2yo?Â
