Just curious: Who's still nursing a "baby" the month before our Due Month??

My "baby" is still going strong at 22 months. He's getting colostrum at this point, and has been for awhile--even tho he only nurses 3-5 times per 24 hours.  You can tell on days that he nurses more, he's having loose poo that sort of resembles newborn poo!  This is new territory for me--I've never tandem nursed before. =)

I'm hoping the nursing stimulation will help with not having me go really late past my due date like I usually do!  Also, I will be producing milk for two, which will be GREAT as I always struggled with low supply in the past.

So anyone else still nursing?  How frustrating is it to try to nurse sitting up with the belly in the way?? HAHA!

My 25mo dd has self-weaned over the last month or so.  I was totally looking forward to tandem nursing, but she just wasn't interested in the months and months of dry nursing (my milk dried up around 12w).  Maybe she'll pick it back up when the baby is born, we'll see.

Mine just weaned in the last 6 weeks too. greensad.gif

I am!  My 'baby' turned 2 a couple of weeks ago.  He is getting lots of colostrum too, and he's so happy about it.

I have tandemed twice now, and it is great.  In those first days, it really helps my supply come in strong.  And then as soon as my milk does come in, my boobs are so big and hard like basketballs.  All the newborn can do is bounce helplessly off of them without getting a good latch- so I just  get the bigger kid to nurse some off the top for the little one!  It really helps me a lot.  Bigger nursers help a lot with clogged ducts, too.  Plus, I think it's very bonding for both of the kids.

Ds weaned back in my 3rd or 4th month I can't remember now, but I can tell that he smells the difference in my nipples when he cuddles to sleep with me.  He had stopped needing to touch my breast to fall asleep and now he's taken to fiddling with my nipples again, which I have to put a quick stop to, but he'll try and find them through my shirt even.  I bet he would unwean if I let him, but I really don't want to tandem as I don't think I could handle it physically (I get nutrient deficient while nursing).

I was not nursing at all this pregnancy, but just chiming in to say that all of a sudden DS is asking for my milk.  He must be able to smell it.... He's been weaned for 8 months, so I don't think we'll be diving in to tandem nursing.  But it has had me thinking- would that be weird?  I mean, for him to just start nursing again after so long (not sure if he'd have a good latch anyway.)  Again, not planning on it, but in the back of my mind I'm wondering "what if".  thoughts?

A friend of mine tried this after you DS had been weaned for most of her pregnancy.  It didn't work at all.  Not only did he have a bad latch, but he thought it was funny and would try to lick her nipples (bad!).  Not to say that it doesn't work sometimes, I think it might in my case as my DD has only stopped nursing recently.  She still asks sometimes, takes one sip and say, "all done mommy".  My DS nursed until he was 3.5yo, so it's strange that she weaned so early.

Yeah, I didn't think it would be the first time it had been done.  It just pulls on my heart strings when he asks for it.  I miss nursing him!  But, I think he might be in the "playtime" camp like your friend's DS.  No thanks :-)  I'm glad I'll have another little nursling soon enough!

With my first, she nursed until I was 7 months along, and then she didn't like the colostrum and she quit.  She asked to nurse again after dd2 came, but she couldn't remember how to latch.  I was super bummed because she was only 21 months, and we had such a rough start to breastfeeding that I had hoped to nurse her longer, I even tried to give her cups of breastmilk, but she didn't like the taste.

DD2 weaned right around her second birthday, I think I was about four months along. So it probably was when my milk dried up.  It was so slow and gradual that I'm not really sure.  She asked to nurse again the other day, but didn't actually latch on, she just pretended to and then started laughing.  So I'm pretty sure shes done.  Plus, she always played with my hair while nursing, and she still is really big on playing with my hair, so I don't feel like she NEEDS it like I did my first.

I do like getting a break between nurslings, although I feel a little bad, because I suspect they both would have nursed longer if I wasn't pregnant.

We are! DS is 19 months, and nursing constantly, esp since I started producing colostrum. I'm glad he hasn't weaned because of his age, but I'm nervous about tandemming. I think he vaguely understands that there's a baby in my belly and it will be coming out, but if I try to talk to him about sharing nursing, he just looks at me like "I don't want to talk about it" and walks away. Should be interesting.

My 29 month old is nursing CONSTANTLY. It's driving me a little batty, but my attempts at gentle night weaning have failed miserably so far so I've kind of just resigned myself to deal with it. At least my milk is in. Just wish my nipple issues would clear up (vasospasms and some sort of clogging issue on my right).

All these make me regret not having a longer nursing relationship with my kids. My son, I only did for 6 weeks because I was never supported to breastfeed. It was going great and then I was told I didn't need to past 6 weeks, even by healthcare professionals. So, at 17, and not knowing better between the difference, I weaned him at 6 weeks. greensad.gif With my daughter, I knew better and had a plan of 12 months. Then at 7 months, my supply faultered after getting sick and transitioning her to sleeping in her own bed. With this one, I want to nurse much longer. At LEAST 18 months.

Yeah, the constant nursing is making me insane, too. I have some milk, but not enough that the physical act of nursing isn't still incredibly irritating. I can't sleep while he's nursing, either, which is killing me. And he's not getting as much milk as he wants/needs, so several nights a week we end up out of bed for an extended midnight snack. Ugh. This morning he was up from 3ish to nearly 5 am, eating ricotta cheese out of the tub.

My 3yo DS is nursing. It was dry nursing every few days from about week 16 to week 30 but lately he has been asking for milk about 2-3 x day. I am pretty sure he is getting some colostrum since he says mmm that tasted good :)

I am expecting twins so nursing should be interesting.smile.gif

Still going strong as if nothing untoward was happening (age 3)... tandem nursing here we come.

My three year old is still going on strong as well. I've got colostrum now, which he likes. He's definitely nursing more now than when there was nothing.

Mine hasn't nursed in a week or so. Before that he was asking every 3 or 4 days. Sometimes I was saying no if he asked at bedtime and it seemed to be more of a stall technique than a need. Maybe we're done? He is 27 months old. Anyway, I'm taking advantage of this flexibility and going on a women's retreat overnight later this month!

ETA: Oh, one of the last times he nursed I asked him if there was any milk (I know there was colostrum but I was just curious what he would say). He said yes. I asked him what it tasted like and he said "cream cheese", which is funny b/c cream cheese is one of his favorite foods, and it was my big-time craving when I was pregnant with him.

goin strong here. ds is almost 2.5 and is not remotely interested in giving it up! It definitely is nice to have a toddler nursling around to take care of the engorgement after my milk comes in :) ds was always an AMAZING nursling (might have had something to do with nursing through pregnancy so my nipples were "broken in" and easier to latch onto? who knows) and never had any trouble latching no matter how full I was. So he'd drink his newborn sized portion and go back to sleep and I'd still be crazy engorged. dd to the rescue! I had dh get her from her room every morning around 5 or so for about a week.

I went 5 days later with dd2 when I was nursing dd1. I know that's just anecdotal, but I remember reading that the nursing can make you go later. I thought the same as you, though, and was super frustrated as the days went by! I totally thought I should be early from all that nipple stimulation! :)
