3 month-long plugged milk duct- now what?

Seriously- now what?

I've tried everything in the early stages of the plugged duct (massaging, hot showers, pumping.... etc) and eventually it stopped hurting and it wasn't bothering me. Except, of course, the big/hard lump in my breast.  My children are breast-feeding well and I have absolutely no pain.   My doctor's all assured me that it would go away and just be on alert for infection.  However, it's still there and I really don't want this lump (especially now that my milk is decreasing)....

Argh! I'm worried about surgery being the only option.  I've heard these things calcify if left plugged.

Any thoughts?

It sounds like you have a galactocele. I had one with DD 1. I had it drained, but it came right back. After I weaned DD1 it went away, and now that I'm nursing a newborn it's back! It hasn't caused me any real trouble, it's just huge and kinda annoying. Once you're done breastfeeding I bet it'll go away or at least shrink a lot.
