capping molar

My 5 year old needs a molar capped. My husband thinks that the dentist is just trying to bill me for more than we need. Another tooth needs to be extracted and he needs two fillings. I feel horrible. He's always had perfect visits and now 4 cavities. What do I need to know about tooth capping on children? Is there an alternative if the tooth is badly decayed? Am I doing the right thing by getting that tooth capped?
