How can ds (4.5) safely ride in our truck? Help and suggestions, please?

My ds (4.5) has been rear facing his whole life so far.  He is currently in a Radian XTSL that we bought specifically to keep him rear facing in our car.  Things are changing, I'm looking for work, and dh and I are likely going to have to do some switching around with picking up and dropping off from preschool.  Dh drives a late model Mazda truck, regular cab.  Are there any reasonable options for a safe way to transport ds in the front seat of that truck from time to time, as a secondary option?  I'm out of the loop on the most recent seats and had intended to keep ds rf for as long as the Radian would go, and then look into a hbb, provided he was able to sit properly.  At the rate ds is going (right now about 40#, nearly 41"), I was thinking he'd be approaching 6 before we needed to look into boosters.  As it is, I'm wondering about what would be appropriate for the truck, as far as a safe, good quality ff harnessed seat.  I would be very grateful for any suggestions--will it even be legal/safe to do?

My understanding with trucks is you can put any seat that you need to in the passenger side as long as there is no airbag or you turn the airbag off. I believe you can have the switch added if you cannot already turn it off. Our old truck & mil's truck both just used the ignition key in a special spot to turn it off.

Ime with our trucks it took a little bit of figuring to get the seats installed well - but quite frankly I find that is the case every time I install a seat in a different vehicle.

A maestro is a safe economical choice for a ffing harnessed seat.

Thanks for the Maestro suggestion, I'll take a look at that.  If there are any other suggestions for ff harnessed seats that would fit my four year old for a bit, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks!
