I'm looking for VBA2C information for the Vancouver BC area.

Hey ya'll. Thanks in advance for your advice and information.

I might be coming down to the area for a birth in the future and was wondering how the VBA2C climate is in the Vancouver BC area.  Is a homebirth possible at all?  Are there supportive care providers for hospital VBA2C?  (c-section, 5 VBACs, c-section)

Thanks!

I'm kind of out of the loop, so someone will have to correct me if I'm wrong, but here is what I understand to be the case:

Registered midwives can attend vba2c, but not at home. They need to share care with an OB.  Not all hospitals will support vba2c, so I think you would need to be at BC Women's.

Homebirth can be an option if you want to go with a private birth attendant.

My good friend had her vbac at home with Pomegranate Midwives. Does vbac2, mean two c-sec's? I'm not sure then. She had her first c sec, then her second birth at home.

Contact the Best Birth Clinic at BC Women's Hospital.  They have an initiative ("Power to Push") to reduce the c-section rate in BC and are very evidence-based.  They have OB's and midwives who are skilled with breech and VBAC for those who meet safety criteria.

They also have a Facebook Page where interesting articles and links are posted, e.g. updates on women who had a successful breech birth, events, research, etc.

Awesome initiative!  A friend of mine had a VBAC through them.

That is a good site, I'd never seen it before.  I wish it said a little more about VBA2C, all I found was a statement that more than one previous cesarean increased risk.

You may also try finding a Traditional birth attendant in the area, who are not subject to rigid protocols and can help you create the birth you desire. There are over 20 Traditional Birth Attendants in BC. Good luck!
