New no vax mom seeks advice for dd's first playdate...

Hi everyone!

So, a friend of mine had her baby (c/s) just a week or so after I had mine.  We want to get the girls together to meet (they are a month and 3 weeks old).  I was at the hospital, but did no vax at all.  My friend said her babe got "whatever they get at birth, Hep a and b" .  I think she must be confused about the Hep A, because I thought that was only for older children.  So, maybe she just got Hep B... Are there any other vaccs. given at birth?

And my question is, should I be waiting some time before having the girls play together, is there any concern? my friend called her ped and asked and he said no problem, but I don't trust that I guess.

maybe seems overprotective.. but I don't want to make any mistakes!

Thank you!

Are you worried that your daughter is going to pass on a vaccine-preventable disease to the other baby?  There is pretty much no chance that's going to happen.  Even with the set of 2-month shots, it's not going to give the other baby immunity immediately.  If your baby is sick, don't have a playdate, but there is very little chance that your baby will even have a vaccine-preventable disease, let alone pass it on to another child.

I think she is worried about the vaccined baby giving HER child a disease and I have read vaccines shed for up to 30 days depending on the vaccine. I would be nervous also. but I'm a nervous person. i think all humans who get vaccined should take extra care to not touch or be around anyone :P

i would be concerned about the mom shedding something if she got the mmr recently and i would also ask if her baby got the rotavirus vax..those shed...i am unsure if they still give the rotavirus one b/c of probs with it.

I truely don't think you have anything to worry about at least at this age.  Your babies are too young to be sharing toys or even interacting with each other.  As they get older, you may need to be more careful, but they will also have more of an immune system.

Yes, babygirlie, exactly.  I am worried about the shedding.  I'll have to do a little research to see if Hep B sheds.  yikes!

its true though the babies won't be sharing bodily fluids, so I don't see how it could be transmitted even if it was shedding.

The hepatitis B vaccine is the only vaccine given before 2 months old. It does not shed. Before one year old, the only live virus vaccine given is rotavirus, starting at 2 months.

The first dose of rotavirus vaccine can shed from day 1 to day 15 after vaccination. The second and third doses rarely shed, according to the vaccine package insert.
