I think we're gonna back off the whole milk. Not going super.

Has anyone else ever heard of a somewhat severe reaction to whole milk....really stinky stools, and very sleepy from some of the chemicals found in cows milk?  My little guy has been sleeping an extra few hours a day since switching to whole milk, and he just doesn't seem himself.  VERY foul smelling stools. They look normal and are he did just have a cold a week ago....but man....hubs has taken to calling him sewer butt!  I think we're gonna switch back to his formula and see if that works in calming his gut down, and maybe then we can try gradually switching....or does anyone else have any ideas?

I don't know if this helps you at all, but DD is still nursing some (13 months) but gets raw cow milk during the day at daycare.  I know that the pasteuritzation process of milk kills all the good enzymes that are naturally available in milk that help people digest it.  Perhaps you could find some raw milk to try?  I'm not sure where you are located, but lots of small farms sell fresh milk locally.  Try doing a Google search.  I hope things get better for you!

long ago my DS (who is now 13)  was getting many many ear infections - i blamed cow milk and switched him to Oat milk and  Rice milk.  When he was two i reintroduced dairy products - cheese mostly and he was fine.

You dont HAVE to give a baby cows milk - these days hemp milk would also be a good option.

I vote for raw milk......that's what we drink.....no issues here!

I'm thinking that is the way we are going to go.  He is back on formula to get his gut calmed down...and alas...no sewer-butt! LOL. I grew up drinking milk from our farm and only switched to drinking 2% when I went to college and that is what my dorm-mates were drinking.  I am going to look tomorrow online for farms closest to us, and try switching him gradually to raw about 1-2 ounces per sippy cup and see how that works.

Thanks!  I should have just gone back to basics probably.

I'd switch back to formula if he tolerates it well. Formula is much more nutrtitious for a young child anyway.

I support access to raw milk products, drink it myself occasionally, and live in a state where it is legal and well regulated but I would not give raw milk to a young child. Ecoli and listeria can kill a child that young.

I've given my kids raw milk beginning at age 12/13 months with no problems.  They do have reactions to pasturized milk.........we know our source for raw milk and it is extremely healthy and clean.  I don't worry about ecoli or listeria in it.  It's far more likely to be on conventional broccoli and spinach anyways.

WOWZA!  We did raw milk and it INSTANTLY helped! Nice firm poop, he loves it...dinks about 30oz a day...and has had no stinkies and really seems to love it!  I am shocked at the difference...but growing up on a farm I've been able to find a farmer friend who lets me get the milk right out of her cooler every other day!  What a treat!  I'm not worried about listeria or anything...I drank it all my life and never had an issue. I only started drinking store bought milk when my father quit farming a few years ago.  So it's worked amazing well!  It must have had to do with the enzymes lost during pasturization...this is so nice!  We haven't used formula in 2 days! yippee! clap.gif

Question for you mamas who recommend and drink raw milk (and feed to their LOs) . Do you boil the milk first? I could do raw milk but I would have to boil it first (to get rid of listeria)?

Boiling raw milk defeats the purpose of buying raw milk.  Know your farmer.  That's the key to safety.

And a baby under the age of two should be on human milk as a 1st choice or artificial human milk substitute (formula) as a 2nd choice.  Any other milk should be held off until after the 2nd b-day.

What is your source for this?
