Holy Ravenous Monster, Batman!

For the past couple of days, the only thing that I can do to not feel nauseous is to keep eating, preferably not so healthy carby things like Cheerios, crackers and donuts. At work last night, one of the customers (who doesn't know I'm pregnant) was laughing at me for "Not being able to get to that donut fast enough" (I was trying to keep from barfing).

Aside from now worrying that I'm going to be the fattest pregnant lady ever, I'm wishing that I was craving healthier things than just grains and sugar.

I am totally craving grains and sugar too, but that is my normal bad craving as well, so I'm not sure if it is pregnancy related yet. I'm just under four weeks at this point...I don't think I got preggo cravings with my daughter until a few weeks later. I have been able to stave off the sweet cravings with fruit, but the grains are harder...I had 2 slices of whole wheat bread and a tortilla today as far as grains go, and that's the best I've done in a while. Trying to get lots of protein and veggies for the baby!

I'm eating constantly as well, but I'm limited by what I bring with me places, so I'm trying to bring lots of veggies/fruits and high proteins. Still doesn't change that I'm eating eating eating to keep the nausea at bay. Total nerd moment, I realized this morning I'm eating like a hobbit. :-) Off to second breakfast I go! (This morning I splurged on a bagel with cream cheese... it's gonna be soooo gooooood). yummy.gif

FHL - bwahahaha I keep telling DH "time for second dinner"

I had my donut week last week - I won't fess up to how many I ate. I am craving carbs, sugar and meat. I normally eat a fair amount of veggies, but I eat maybe a fork full and can't stomach the rest. I figure there's got to be a reason this is what the body wants so run with it and don't feel bad about it!

And no I think I'll have you beat for biggest pg woman ever, I've already gained..... a lot...... and I'm 5.2 today :p

I am currently attempting to devour an entire container of sea salt and pepper cashews.  It's not going to be a very difficult attempt.  I also have started with the rubber band on pants trick this week.  I'm at 5wks2days.  Yup...this is going to be a doozy.

ETA: I just looked at the container and there is supposed to be 10 servings in it....lol.gif  I laugh at you, silly container.

you quite literally made me laugh out loud, thanks! I had to get new pants too :p we're trying to keep this one hidden for a while so I bought a pair two sizes up and a belt... wonder how long this will last!

btw, I just asked dh to bring home more donunts - bad influences you are!!

OMG I decided to weigh last night..... I've gained 14 lbs in the last 6 weeks!! o.o and I'm only 5.2 weeks pg!!

Okay, so honestly, I ate a lot cause I was depressed about my mc last month. I also have stopped working out completely and I usually work out at least 8 hours a week, plus my appetite has increased.

.....I'm going to get really fat this time aren't I......

I only want carbs and cheese...grilled cheese, bagels with cream cheese, etc.

The thing is that I normally HATE melted cheese and super carby foods so I have these weird conversations with myself.  Yesterday I was at the cafeteria at work and I saw the bagel bar with cream cheese.  Normally totally disgusting to me, but I just had this urge to get one.  But I was also pretty certain (given my past hatred) that it would be really gross and I'd have to throw it out.  Nope.  Best bagel ever.  I feel like I could pretty much only eat bagels and cream cheese for the rest of my life and be happy.

Tibris, I'm not getting on the scale til my midwife forces me to.  And that might be with a cattle prod...cause I'll be that big by week 11

katiedidder, super weird about your bagel thing...I just gave bagels and cream cheese a test thought, and nope, my body wants nothing to do with them though I normally love them.  Pregnancy is so weird.

You know what I started eating to cover the carb-cravings (cause I get them A LOT) is hummus. It's carby-feeling and tasting to me, even though it's really not. And you can eat it with pita chips, so it FEELs like two carbs at once. :D but, also though, the other thing I've been craving? Anything with vinegar. All of a sudden, I really WANT salt and vinegar chips and pickles. I mean, I normally am sort of "eh" about the chips and pickles, but I really really want them all of a sudden AND! I found this brand of pickles, called Bubbies, which has like,2% vitamin A, 2% vitamin C, 2% iron and 2% calcium in it, so I'm like, "oh, it has vitamins, so it's GOOD for me, right?" The bread and butter pickles are quite tasty. The nice thing for me is that normally, non-pregnant, I have no appetite. I can go for hours and hours and hours and not think to eat something b/c I just don't feel hungry. (this is not good for me.) So, It's quite nice to be like, "Oh. I'm HUNGRY. Must eat." because now I know I'm not going to starve myself by accident. 'course, I'm only about, what, 5 weeks, so I've already gained several pounds. O.o I was hoping not to gain more than 15 lbs this pregnancy, b/c I'm already technically "obese" and I don't want to deal with that drama while pregnant, but... Oh, well.

I was off sugar for two months to "detox" for TTC and this weekend I ate SO MUCH sugar.  I think I'm going to do a week or two without any sugar to get me back on track.  It's just so delicious!

I've been dabbling in "paleo" (a.k.a. caveman diet) and I think this time around will be much better- so far when feeling nausious I grab a protein whether it's what I want or not and it's done the trick. I'm trying to avoid grains (I've been noticing my insides don't like them) and limit carbs- hello, meat and vegetables!!

Thanks for the reminder eirual! I did get some organic beef jerky at Wegman's last night and it helped. I'm going to go check out the pregnancy threads at MDA.

When did people's appetite start to go crazy? I am going to be five weeks on Friday. I really haven't noticed a huge increase in appetite yet. I did get up in the middle of the night last night and eat a handful of pretzels, but tbh I've been seeing the scale go down a few pounds!

I can't speak for others, but I am in my 4th week, too, and for me the main thing I notice is that I'm not getting hungry, I go from just fine to STARVING. Then it seems like I feel full really quickly, given how hungry I am. Also, I am starving first thing in the morning, which is unusual for me. Usually I have a cup or two of coffee (another funny thing - my body self-weaned off of coffee the week after I conceived, before implantation), and maybe a little yogurt or piece of toast or something if I remind myself that it's good to eat in the morning. But the past few days I wake up starving.

I need to figure out some good high-protein foods to have on hand that I can eat in the morning without too much cooking. I guess I can make some hard-boiled eggs in advance, but if that's all I have, I'll get sick of them pretty quickly!

eirul - I've been trying to eat more paleo lately too!!  I also plan on following the WAP (Weston A. Price) pregnancy diet as much as possible.  I did have some gluten free bread last night but I needed it to get down my liverwurst :)  I don't really have any cravings or increase in appetite yet but I'm still very early (I'll be 4 weeks tomorrow).

I'd love to brainstorm some high-protein snacks 'cause I've eaten more hard boiled eggs than I'd care to admit.

-pepperettes

-nitrate-free turkey dogs

-hard boiled eggs

-turkey

-fried egg and hot sauce

-peanuts/nuts

Does anyone eat the plain 2% Fage yogurt? I've been eating that for breakfast and snacks. If you buy the big cups, half of the container is 23g of protein and only 170 calories. I drizzle a bit of honey on top so the calorie count goes up, but it definitely gives you some protein while satisfying a sweet craving as well! I love it!

I lost weight most of my pregnancy with DS.  I never got ravenous.  In fact, I stayed nauseated with him until I started checking my blood sugar sometime in the second trimester and discovered I was seriously hypoglycemic.  Started eating frequent small meals and felt better and gained a little weight in the third trimester.  I had cravings, sure, but never wanted more than a bit of anything.

I'm trying to make myself eat to help quell nausea from hypoglycemia, but the hormonal nausea won't let me.  Bleagh.   That's fine with me.   I can eat later.

ummmm... well I am up at 3:30 AM because I was hungry..... ick. But that sweet potato cassarole (sweet potato, eggs, raw milk, honey, cinnamon topped with flax, brewers yeast, oats and almonds.... YUM!

My first preg I had hyperemesis and it was terrible. Around the time I started recovering I began eating BEFORE I was hungry, or immediately. I find that being really hungry is a huge issue for me, sickness wise. I'm planning to get a better hold on that, this pregnancy.

I eat as well as I can, and lean very much towards traditional foods. I try to always keep lots of foods around that I can choose from. I think we might make up some jerky this weekend.... sounds so good!!!
