How do you pronounce Eryx?

DH and I have debated that it's either Ear-icks, Air-icks, or E-rooks

If it helps it's a greek name.

That was my first thought. But this might be better middle name material. Folks are never going to spell this one right and they will stumble on how to say it.

I said, "Air-ix" in my mind.  Love the name.  My daughter's name is Eowyn pronounced A-o-win...The E is like the e at the end of cafe or fiance...

Anyone reading it get's it wrong, but we absolutely love her name and she does too.  Don't go for middle name with this if it is a name you truly love.  Different is beautiful!  Eowyn is 5 and when someone mispronounces her name, she just politely corrects them.

Many years ago I was told that the trick to pronouncing Greek was to actually pronounce each letter. So to me it would be Er-ee-icks. Which I think sounds pretty cool. BUT I could be totally wrong, and being as I'm the only one to think of it that way, I'd take it with a grain of salt. ;)

The proper pronunciation is ehrooks (short e sound, oo as in too).

It's a Greek name. It's not a /y/ replacing an /i/. There's not supposed to be an /i/ there.
