Question for moms who nursed through pregnancy and tandemed

I'm currently 33 weeks pregnant and my 29 month old still nurses tons...which I have no problem with, other than that her latch is horrible (and nothing I've done to correct it has helped) and I'm in a lot of pain when she nurses. I guess I'm just looking for reassurance that I'll be able to handle correcting a toddler and a newborn's latch at the same time and that the hormonal soreness/sensitivity will go away. I can handle a lot of pain, so I know I'll continue regardless, but nevertheless, I'm kind of scared.

fly-by-nursing2.gif You can do it!! Yes you can!!  Remember to nurse the baby first.  Be forewarned, however, that you may still experience nipple soreness with the new baby in the first week or two simply because it is a different child that will need to learn to latch correctly and who is going to need lots of nursing time.  Be prepared to offer distractions or other options (mommy milk in a sippy cup? lots of snuggles but no nursing?) for the toddler for a brief window of time.   It might be good to have an IBCLC lined up to work with as your body will now need to adjust to nursing for two and you will want to make sure the new little one has a terrific latch.  Make sure you get plenty of rest and sufficient calories, too.

Congrats and best wishes.

I had problems with having too much milk. I assigned a breast to each child and each breast seemed to make what each needed. I would only nurse the oldest if the baby was nursing so I didn't feel like I was nursing all the time.

My second child never suckled properly. He had an abnormal roof of his mouth. There was a plan for him to have surgery before he started getting his permanent teeth. He nursed until he was over 4 and the extended nursing was enough to develop his mouth so he didn't have to have surgery. It never felt good when he nursed but it didn't really hurt. I may have had more problems if he had been my first.

I nursed my son through my pregnancy and we dealt with a bad latch.  I taught him to open his mouth wide and I would shove as much boob into his mouth as possible.  Then he slid into a more comfortable position but always had more breast in his mouth than if he had just latched himself.  After practicing it a few times he got the hang of it and I still use the cue "Big mouth!" if his latch is slipping.

I found it easier to nurse them both at the same time in football holds with a few pillows on my lap.  Here's a pic:
