It's time for the "W" word again, and I'm not talking winter: It's wood season! - Page 2

One of our locals with a firewood business sells wood that is aged at least a year on request (actually, he outright asks how soon until you will need to burn it).  We're lucky that we actually have some 2 year wood right now, anyway.  Our first year here, we weren't caught up or in the know as to who to ask for dry wood and it was pretty wet (we did have 2 chords from the previous house owner, but it certainly wasn't enough).  My DH split the wood into much smaller pieces than usual to enable it to dry out a lot faster, and our wood is off the floor in pallets in the basement, where we also have the wood furnace, so the dryness there helps out, too.

We're getting a wood burning fireplace insert in two weeks and I'm very excited about it!  We've got an old electric furnace and our monthly bills are ridiculous. We're going to (finally) supplement with wood this winter, saving ourselves lots of money.  Our wood arrived two weeks ago and it's nicely stacked, waiting to be used.  We found a very nice local business that sells wood that's aged one year, so we ordered four cords.  We had just under two cords leftover from last year, so we're hoping that's enough.  The insert is supposed to only need reloading every 6 hours or so, which is so much more efficient than anything we've experienced in the past.  I'm looking forward to it being installed because it's going down below zero now at night and it's getting chilly in the house!  I've been baking bread at strategic times so we haven't used the furnace yet.
