2 yo sick w/ mouth ulcers - what can I give her to help?

She has a fever too, the white spots look similar to mouth ulcers, so am I right in assuming this is probably just some run of the mill virus? The mouth ulcers do seem to be bothering her what can I do to help? Other than acting like there's something in her mouth bothering her she seems to be acting okay, acting mostly normal, just a little bit clingier.

It sounds like Hands, Foot, and Mouth disease (http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvrd/revb/enterovirus/hfhf.htm) which is very common with children that age. I recommend checking with your ped.

Hope your DD feels better soon.

Yep, she has a rash on her rump, so this sounds very likely. My 3yo has a fever too :p I guess I'm lucky they'e made it this long without catching it :) That would also explain why my 5 yo is fine, she's probably already had it.

I would still love to hear of any natural ways of helping her with the mouth ulcers, I think she's chewing on them....

This is not really a remedy, but it should sooth her - can you give her sips of ice water from a spoon? Or from a straw (so she doesn't have to irritate her mouth by putting it on a cup or sippy cup? If she doesn't like water, perhaps bits of pureed frozen banana or very cold (rice/soy/almond) milk - basically anything non-acidic and very cold will sooth the pain. My dh and I get cold sores inside the mouth and frozen things that are non-irritating help with the pain. I hope she feels better soon!

My child has this too.  She is 18 months old and had a high fever, sores on and around her tonsils, refused to eat (because of the throat irritation), no bowel movements (not eating), and was very clingy/irritable.  We treated the fever and pain with ibuprofin (which we don't usually do) because she was really bothered by it and we kept her hydrated (nursed non-stop for like 3 days). Talked to the ped. about it, and there's not much to do but wait it out.  The only other option is to mix benadryl with maelox to coat the throat.  The ped. recommended that if it came to that, that we have a pharmacist mix it to ensure the correct dosage. After about 3-4 days, DD was perfectly happy again and I think it's gone by now.
