Ohio player pricks foes in handshake line, forces tetanus shots

Came across this article and wondered why in the world they would think tetanus was a threat to these people? (I would be thinking, stds among others) - just seemed bizarre, unless they actually tested the cutting tool and it had tetanus spores on it or something. Am I the only one or is this just strange?

I read that article yesterday, and thought the tetanus shots were absurd. But I would be worried about bloodborne diseases, because that tack was pricking multiple people and drawing blood. If any shots were offered, it should have been hepatitis B.

Weird.  All 27 were given tetanus?  What for?  I am sure many of them were up to date on their tetanus shots.....seems like total overkill to me.....
