My 18 month old gets very fidgetty whenever she's in her high chair lately. Her legs and hips keep moving back and forthe, and it's like she doesn't want to eat or drink anything until she's finished doing whatever it is she is doing. She also behaves this way in her car seat, always wiggling and moving around; I guess she doesn't like being locked into anything that makes her feel stuck. I don't mind her behavior, I just can't feed her right away whenever I put her in her high chair and it can make things inconvenient. Does anybody else have a young child who does this, and how do you get them to stop being so wiggly and fidgetty. Is this a sign of anxiety or hyper-activity, that they can't just sit still? How do you deal with it?

Fidgetty 18 month Girl

I think its completely normal. My 18 month old girl does that too, and has for several months. She doesnt want to be strapped in and she will wiggle around until she gets comfortable. I dont think it is even remotely a sign of hyper activity or anxiety. 18 month olds cannot be expected to "sit still", so I just deal with it by letting her do it. I dont feed DD, so it doesnt bother me how long it takes her to get situated. When she is done, she starts eating the food on her tray. Are you on a time limit when you put her in the high chair?
