Astraia- I'm also guessing women who are having some kind of health problem like a deficiency would be more likely to be sleeping during the day and longer at night, and that is where the correlation is coming from, but I'm not anything near an expert, so who knows.

I can't lay on one side all night as it really bothers me, but I do my best to stay on my left side as much as possible. When I am big and pregnant I tend to move around a lot, so I doubt I would ever lay on my right side so long that it would be a problem. It's not something I let myself worry about, just try to stay mindful about spending most of my time on my left.

I am so scatter brained right now I can't stay on task, either. Do a couple things. Hit the computer. Do a couple other things. Hit the computer. Gaaa why? This always happens when I am pregnant, I hate it.

Interesting Article, I tend to sleep on my left side anyway, I'm on the left side of the bed, and my husband snores sometimes so I turn away from him (lol). I think it would be hard to control how many times you wake up or if you turn during the night. Maybe a prenatal body pillow would help you stay in position, or at least make you more aware if you did move.

I think it is better for the heart to sleep on the left side: because of the way blood flows through the heart/body --if on the left side, gravity benefits the heart.  On the right side it strains the heart.  Pumping all that extra blood you have while pregnant is a lot of work for the heart!

I never pay much attention to how I sleep, but usually I wake up and I'm on my left side anyway, so I guess thats a good sign!

Janellody, when I just glance at your posts, I keep thinking you're KM84 at first because you both have those adorable little brown cats as your profile pic!

I know huh?  Kitties are so cute, I couldn't help it.  :)

I toss and turn all night (even when not pregnant) so I think I'll be okay in that regard.  Actually getting into a deep sleep would be fantastic too though.

On another note, I'm super duper emotional this week.  I'm emotional anyway, so this is not good.  I cried at a Wendy's commercial last night.  WTH.  SO is in for a looong 8 months.

Name: Alys

Weeks/Days along: 7 weeks, 3 days

Appointments: see midwife on 10/18

Symptoms:  nauseous all the freakin' time, gigantic painful boobs (how big can they get-- I'm scared!), some weird hot flashes yesterday morning, either super constipated or horrific diarrhea, weird dreams/sleep, hardcore fatigue, and a tight swollen uterus

Food: ugh! seriously the only things that don't gross me out are plain bagels with plain cream cheese, potatoes, and spaghetti squash

Exercise: if I only had the energy

Body changes and other milestones: the tight swollen uterus that limits my ability to fit into my work clothes and the humongous boobs. OK seriously, if they went up a full cupsize and a full band size in the first 7 weeks, how big will they be by the time I deliver? Where does one go to buy giant bras?

Thoughts: honestly, I just want to get through this week so that I can get some piece of mind at the midwife's appt next week. My last pregnancy ended around this time and I am trying not to get my hopes up too much but it's impossible not to get all dreamy and excited when my symptoms are so obnoxious.

I totally feel your pain, mine are growing with no end in sight. Try Nordstrom! If you have [very understandable] sticker-shock with their bras, see if there's a Nordstrom Rack nearby. I got my 32F bra there, usually $80, for $20.

I am having the sharp pains when rolling over too.  I had forgotten about those.  :(

I always try to stay on my left side and that is usually the side that I do most of my deep sleeping on anyways. I do like falling asleep on my tummy and I am scared of doing damage but mostly, its just uncomfortable already. I also LOVE reading in bed while laying on my back and that will have to stop soon and that makes me sad. It is just so uncomfortable too. I switched from left side to right side last night by turning my body underneath (not rolling over- does that even make sense) and it felt a sharp pain/pull and it was another flashback to my previous pregnancies! EEEK- I forgot that you can't just whip your body around in bed, as I do when I am frustrated and need to sleep. You have to move very carefully... maybe that's just me. I am peeing multiple times a night but I don't know if I am waking up to pee or if when something wakes me up, I then have to pee. I don't know if anything I wrote just made sense. My brain is mush and I am not even going to proof read it!!!

Name: Serena

Weeks/Days along: 9wks/5days

Appointments: 18oct will be my first!

Symptoms: nauseous and puked for the first time today. it's been the first time i puked in over 3 years. lots of headaches and congestion. hot flashes have stopped. and forgetful, forgetting snacks, water, wallet, glasses, lost my drivers license for a few weeks.

Food: only things i can stomach are comfort foods like mac and cheese, pasta, potatoes, cereal and granola bars seem to do well. i can't stand the smell of meat although i wouldn't eat it normally. anything sweet gives me a headache just thinking about it.

Exercise: does rolling over count? chasing a 3 year old and helping with her t-ball practice has to count for something.

Body changes and other milestones: my boobs are just so heavy. am starting to not fit my pants :( i was hoping to wear my regular clothes until the first trimester was over, wishful thinking, but they still fit and by next week i just won't be able to button them. time to pull out some bigger sizes.

Thoughts: lately i've just been wanting some quiet time during the day and dd has been super needy lately, even followed me to the bathroom, hanging over me, while i was making friends with the toilet and her just saying "you're puking mom? you're puking!". i would have liked to be able to do that by myself, lol. i can't shower in peace and that's where i normally find my alone time, she's just invaded ever aspect of my day. she's not being her independent self lately; i think it has to do with my milk drying up already. but, no tantrums from her the past few weeks, so that's a big plus.

Name:  Jen

Weeks/Days along: 7 weeks, 4 days :D

Appointments: second emergency ultrasound due to some spotting.

Symptoms:  nausea is starting to improve, though it's still there. My breasts are so tender that even a bra hurts to wear now. :(

Food: I'm craving everything salty. It's weird, but that's all I want.

Exercise: Finally allowed to start walking again, so I'll be going to start up my half hour walks with my dogs again. :D

Body changes and other milestones: We have a heartbeat!!! It was 148 yesterday during our ultrasound, and I couldn't be happier!!

Thoughts: Things seem to be going great! I had one day of some spotting, but I'd been working hard to get ready for the wedding, and hadn't been resting like I was supposed to. I'm still going to be nervous until we hit that 13 week mark, but I'm feeling pretty good!

ugh, mama2rio!  No fun.  no fun. hope you are feeling better.

Congrats again, jynxgirl.

I am reading all of these and want to respond but am just fried right now!  So hopefully, tomorrow.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Any pumpkin patch trips planned this weekend?  We grow pumpkins in our garden and I look at them and think, omg, my belly is going to be that big soon!

Yeah, I read them all, but I'm always way too tired to respond to everything. So many of you are outgrowing your clothes! I'm due at the end of May, so I'm a few weeks behind at only 7 weeks, but still...I'm nowhere near growing out of anything. My boobs aren't bigger at all either, even though they got a lot bigger both other pregnancies. I'm hoping this means it's a boy this time (it's really true - boobs don't grow as much on average for boys as for girls), but I'm not holding my breath, lol. I feel bad hoping for a certain sex, but I do have two girls already and dh really, really wants a boy, and I'm NOT having 4 kids, so this is it. Last time I sort of wanted another girl so dd1 would have a sister, so I guess it's normal to hope for a gender. I wish I didn't, though.

I'm just now starting to get more nausea. I didn't throw up until about 9 weeks last time, although I did dry heave every day for a couple weeks before that. I really hope the nausea isn't as bad this time. I don't know how I'd manage the toddler and home schooling older dd if I was that sick again. I mean, really - throwing up 3 to 5 times a day is horrible. I was really miserable, but nothing natural helped, and I don't take meds when pregnant unless I need them, so the only thing to do is suffer through it. I just remind myself that researchers believe the nausea has a protective effect, preventing mothers from eating foods likely to harm the baby. That sort of helped. Still, I hope it won't be so bad this time.

I woke up yesterday with terrible wrist pain that's only gotten worse. I've never had this happen to me before :( I have a brace on my left wrist now, and I can't grip a thing without feeling a lot of pain. Has anyone experienced this? Could it be because of the increased relaxin and a bad sleeping position?

Try googling pregnancy induced carpel tunnel.  It's pretty common.

Well, I've decided I'm going to go get my heart checked out.  I have these crazy palpitations sometimes...dizzy, shortness of breath, funky vision, chest tightness, headache, fatigue, weakness, low blood pressure, the works. If it progresses and gets worse in an "episode", I have some digestive issues, and have even gotten hives!  It's way worse when I am pg.  If I am very careful to control the external factors, I'm good: good sleep, stay hydrated, and take my vitamins, and don't get too hot.  But if I don't...whew.  I'm a mess.  I'm pretty certain it's a mitral valve prolapse.  I have all the symptoms except the diagnosed murmur.  Which means it's not a big deal, mostly, just annoying.  No one has ever had anything diagnosed, but my gpa, mom, brother, uncle, and sister all deal with it, too.  So, I think it's not a big deal, but I'd rather get an EKG to be certain I'm not dealing with something worse.  Today is a heart-racing day, and I'm not feeling so great.

We went to an orchard yesterday.  It turned out it was field trip day for the local school, but we still had a great time.  Tomorrow I get to go meet dh at a hotel where he is working, and that's always fun.  The kids and I hang out while he works, and then we can go explore/eat out/do something fun when he gets off. His days are usually short because it's a private contract kind of thing.  When we get home, there's a fall festival at the end of our road.  The kids are really excited to go to it.  It's very much geared toward preschool/early elementary age.  And it's great because I feel okay about getting my kids in at the door, and then turning them loose.  It's big enough to be exciting for them, and make them feel like they have all sorts of freedom, but small enough I can easily watch.

yes, it is common for women during pregnancy and even after birth (up to a year) to have wrist problems.  I've had wonderful treatment for my wrist/elbow pains from my chiro.  If the brace doesn't improve things, I would see your chiro.  Edit to add: if you don't have one already, ask about how many pregnant women they see.  I was very pleased that mine was familiar with what happens to women through pregnancy.

Whenever I get problems with my tendons and whatnot I take magnesium supplements and it really helps. I found during my last pregnancy that it really helped with my back pain and prodromal labor, too. You may want to talk to your midwife/ OB before you take it, of course.

LOL!

I'm 8 wks preggo today. With four children and homeschooling, I won't be here much, but I do enjoy everyone's updates and hope to be as much of a support as possible!

Thanks everyone. I'll make a chiro appointment and speak to my midwife.

I really don't think it's carpal tunnel, it feels like tendonitis to me actually, but from googling that doesn't seem rare in pregnancy either. At any rate, it's really sore and painful and it was so sudden. I could barely sleep last night :(

mary, i haven't had any issues with my wrist, but my right knee has been bugging me. I thought it might just be how I slept on it but maybe relaxin has something to do with it as well. I hope the chiro can give you some relief.

mama2rio, first time puking in 3 years, wow! greensad.gif Hope you're feeling better soon...comfort foods like mac n cheese are always appealing to me too - yum! I figure, whatever I can stomach, I'll eat now and in the 2nd trimester when I am not nauseated, I'll eat super healthy.
