Does anyone know how to reach Mary Mumford Haley?

Hi everyone,

I just got to know that Mary left the East Bay Family Health Center end of August and is no longer working with them. I was wondering if anyone know if she's still in the state or still does prenatal care and birth and how to reach her?

Yes she is no longer doing hospital births so I hear.  There are plenty of other great midwifes in the state though, and some great doctors at Memorial if that's where you wanted to go.

It is just so hard to find a good match. Do you have any recommendations for good midwivery care in Rhode Island?

I would recommend Dr. Magee and Dr. Morton at Memorial before I would recommend some of the RI midwifery practices that operate on a rotating call schedule.  They are less likely to intervene than some of the midwives and provide very personalized, mother-friendly care.  You can find a list of providers who subscribe to an evidence-based model of care in the RIBN provider directory at www.ribirth.net.

I see it as a good thing that Mary is able to focus on homebirth now which is becoming increasingly popular.  There ARE other options than Mary and Memorial for VBAC!  There are other providers at Memorial with great VBAC success.  My friend just had a great VBAC at Kent, and that was with a doctor.  And I know my midwife practice has an 80% VBAC success rate at Kent..which I think is pretty fantastic.  Anyways...don't be too sad!

Very true - I am so happy for Mary and her HB endeavors.  However, my vbac simply would not have happened at any other hospital and most likely not without Mary's encouragement, so I do hope someone picks up where she trail blazed.  I knew that this was coming, and knew I would feel sad whenever I heard the official news.

what???? mary is gone. where have i been.  I love Mary, I know my 1st vbac would  not have happened without her.  She was not on call for my 2nd and I got Dr Heidi Schneider who I had to fight off using a vacuum, thank god for Dr. Morton who also told her it was not needed.  I have been telling my husband if we ever have another baby it will be a home birth and now that Mary is gone there is no question for me that it will definitely be a home birth.  I wish she would do HBACS but I understand why she doesn't want to get into it.
