June is the middle name and it cannot change as it is my beloved Grandma's name.

Thank you so much for your imput and for the little giggle. I was thinking Mary Catherine but all I can think about it the Molly Shannon SNL Catholic School girl character! We have explored all the Mary variations and the good ol' classic is still my favourite. We are going very simple and late 1970's early 80's for this baby (if it's a girl).. Either Sarah June, Rebecca June or Rachel June (or Mary). I REALLY can't chose. We have a Charlotte Winter and a Deacon Ronald already...

She'd be a SUPAH STAH!  ;)

Sarah is my name, and I don't dislike it...but at any given point in my life I have known at least 3 other Sarahs personally.  At school, work, etc.  Although, I haven't heard it for a child in quite a while.  It's quite possible that she would share a name with several of her teachers and/or friend's moms though.  :)  Rebecca and Rachel were popular then too, but not as popular as Sarah I don't think.

That is pretty!  I hate it when I get all excited about a name and SO shoots it down. :(  Bummer!

I think Rebecca sounds great with your other 2 kids names.  I wouldn't do Mary.  I know someone who married someone whose last name rhymed with his first name...and hers.  Mary Murray...no, I just couldn't.

We are trying to decide between Dorothy Abigail or Daisy Abigail

I think Alaric would work for a girl, myself.

For those of you struggling with loving names your DH vetoes - I went through this with DS.  We had a first name, and were stuck on a middle.  I knew what middle name worked, and it was pretty much the only one left.  He'd vetoed it at least half a dozen times.  We sat down and discussed it, discussed name meanings on the name he kept pushing, and finally realized I really did have a reason for pushing for the one I was pushing for.  So if you really have something in mind, a blanket "no" isn't necessarily the "last word" - open a discussion, find out why he said no, tell him why you like it, etc.  You might actually change his mind.

Maybe Rosemary, Marell, Masha, Marie-Elaine ?  I love the name Mary, too.

No opinions on my names? greensad.gif Naming kids is so hard!

My DDs name in Aniela (ahn-yell-a) and it's Polish (my ancestry, I'm second generation American) but DH won't go for another Polish name right now...I LOVE her name though. No one can say it right though and i feel like she is going to have issues with that her whole life which really sucks...

It is hard!  I don't remember feeling this kind of pressure with DD.  I just picked the first one that her dad and I agreed on.  Now I'm thinking about all this other stuff that probably doesn't matter that much.

I love the name Myles (or Miles).  Ellis, Milo, Mason, Owen, Gavin and Evan are also nice.  Short and sweet. :)

I can't stop thinking about the name Aiden.  I've always loved it and the only reason I haven't even considered it is because it's SOOO popular.  But I really started thinking about it, and I don't currently know any Aidens.  There are none in any of the classes I work with (4 classes, about 20-40 kids each, ages 6 weeks-3yrs).  There was only one Aiden in the last school I worked in, about 3 years ago.  None of my friends or relatives have kids named Aiden either.  So...is it really that common?

I know a million Aidens haha my nephew is one! When his mom told me it though I thought it was so unique until I met so many other ones!

I know Sadie was semi-popular not too long ago but I've never met one. I always wanted to name a little girl Sadie :)

I still don't know how I feel about Myles. I don't like the spelling Miles b/c well I think of car miles...I liked Declan, Keagan, Luke, Zechariah (Zech as nickname), and Lennon but DH doesn't like any of them. I especially love Lennon and Zechariah.

Bubblema -

It's funny, I really like all of your names, in exactly the order listed (starting with Myles and Ellis as the favorites)

I think it's possible a little Aidan born today would go through school without another Aidan in his class, but would almost certainly have a Jayden, Braiden, or Caden to contend with. That has been an incredibly popular sound for a few years now. Speaking as the aunt of a 4 yo Kaiden, I hear it everywhere now that I'm listening.

Sosurreal -

Sadie is really cute, and I think it still sounds fresh.

For a boy I like Keagan and Lennon. When I put your favorites into a matchmaker some of the names it came up with were: Korbin (b), Adalyn (g), Jaxon (b), and Izaiah (b). Don't know if that helps.

My daughter is in 2nd grade and has 3 Aidens (!!!) and a Jayden in her same class, so that year - 2004 - is likely to be an "Aiden" peak.  It might be the case that there are fewer born 8 years later.... or that it was a regional trend (I'm in Northern CA).

No doubt where you live has a huge influence, but according to the Social Security Administration, Aiden is still going strong! It was the 60th most popular name in 2004, and is now the 9th most popular boys name. Madison peaked in 2001 (#2), but is still going strong at #8 for girls.

What's interesting is to see the decline of some of the more "traditional" names - Matthew was at #3 in 2000, but is down to #16 now.

You can play with the data here: http://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/

Also fascinating: guess which names have gained the most ground (become more popular) in the last year?
Bentley for boys, and Maci for girls.

Thanks, MTV

(Maci is one of the moms on Teen Mom, and Bentley is her son)

Thats sad about the teen mom names. Good lord.

We have decided to go with Dorothy as it means in Greek "Gift from God". I would really prefer a hebrew name over a greek name, but as long as it is faith centered we are ok with it.

Sos - I really love your daughters name. Ahnyella (forgot how you spelt it, but remember the sound) - so lovely.

Okay, so maybe Aiden is still out.  I'd almost rather have a child with a popular name at the height of the popularity rather than a couple years later.  kwim?  I guess I don't like to be thought of as a copy cat.  lol

It's hard when you love a name that's popular! Like my struggles with Sarah... right Sarah (bubblema)- lol!!!! I love it and I love our boys name James but both are in the top 10 although I don't know of any babies with either of those names. I know a lot of boys with James as a middle name. It KILLS me that Charlotte is SOOO popular now. When we did it in 2006, it was barely in the top 100  but now its almost number 1 (on some lists). I am pretty certain that our son Deacon will be the only one in his class. There is one guy named Deacon in our city and he is pretty cool- he is a tattoo artist and even though I have never dated that type of guy, he is pretty hot and awesome. I like that I can look at my Deacon and see the religious side of his name and then picture him with a little bit of an edgy side one day. I love naming babies and I LOVE talking about names. This convo never gets old for me!

hehe  SO's name is James.  ;)  I think with a name like Sarah, James, Mary, Matthew, Jacob, Hannah, etc. is that even though they're common they're also timeless.  Sarah could be 100 years old, or 1 day old.

I love Charlotte and Deacon together!  Nice combo.  Have you ever visited nameberry.com?  Tons of good ideas...if you're still looking.

NO FREAKING WAY!!! That's hilarious!!! Thank you for liking the combo of my kids names. I worked in a higher end furniture and home decor store for 11 years and I heard many a mother yelling out her children's names so I actually do that as a test. I love yelling out "CHARLOTTE AND DEACON" (please tell me that you just tried yelling that out)- they work very well together. That's why I am so worried about a third child's name. I think that James is the perfect fit (and honestly, our guilty pleasure is that we are going to call him Lil' Jimmy- teehee and maybe just maybe I will yell out "Go Diego Go" which is James in Spanish). I almost NEED this to be a boy as we have been talking about our invisible third child James (also known as Jimmy Jams) for like 2 years.

I am 100% addicted to Nameberry. The blogs on there are amazing and the authors and I have VERY similar tastes in names.

So, when I do the "yell out" test, Charlotte, Deacon and Sarah sounds good as does Charlotte, Deacon and Rebecca!!! I usually love names like Iris, Helena and Evelyn so Rebecca is a little different for me but I have grown very attached to it. Once again, I ADORE Mary but simply cannot do Mary Murray.
