Winter?

I'm in Canada, and so winter is kind of a big deal here... Only, this time I'll be between 4 and 8 months pregnant during the most of our winter.

I have NO idea what I'm going to wear as a winter coat!!!

Has anyone else tackled this? Winter is coming fast, and I need to know where to order/buy them.

Do you have a Motherhood Maternity up there? They have some affordable winter coats: http://www.amazon.com/Motherhood-Maternity-Quilted-Puffer-Micro/dp/B0032YT3Y0/ref=sr_1_3?s=apparel&ie=UTF8&qid=1318387785&sr=1-3

I am totally dealing with this too! I live in Ontario near Toronto and we are in the "snow belt"! With my other two pregnancies, I was due in October and late November. It was cold when I had the other two but I didn't have to worry about a winter coat- I just wore my normal coats open with a big scarf. I am getting a little worried about dropping a ton of money to get ready for winter. I have to walk my DD to school every second day (DS is still home with me) and I want to buy very good, solid, gripping winter books so I don't trip and fall while pregnant. I have to walk through a park to the school and last year, I pulled the kids on a sled. They are bigger this year and I really liked using the sled but I will need to buy a bigger one this year. So, I am going to need a new winter coat and I think I am going to buy some men's construction boots or something... I kind of like that look anyways with leggings and a big coat and scarves. I am praying for a mild winter....  What province are you in? On the bright side, I have never had a spring baby and I am really looking forward to not bundling up a newborn in the winter and driving with a newborn in snowstorms. However, I did like losing the baby weight over the winter and by the summer, I always felt more like myself! So far, we have broken records with the warmest Thanksgiving weekend in my region so it's been gorgeous out! Oh and we do have a Motherhood here... 5 minutes from my house and right beside where I used to work so I used to drop a lot of money every break I had at work. I am a SAHM now so at least I don't need work clothes. I gave away all of my mat clothes so I do need to buy some new things.

I'm just outside Toronto as well. Right along Lake Ontario. For me the thing will be walking the dogs every day. I agree about the big clunky winter boots!!! I slip all the time in the winter, this year it might be super bad...

I'm seriously considering getting some wool suiting fabric and just making myself a cloak for the winter. I'm nerdy enough that I could pull it off. :D

My daughter is a July baby, and I'm kind of glad I won't need to fret about a winter baby with all the snowsuits and such.

I live in Minnesota, so it's COLD here too!  My first was born at the end of Feb so I was my biggest in the heart of winter (she was actually born during a HUGE snow storm).  I actually somehow managed to wear my regular winter coat through.  Near the end it wouldn't zip so I'd just layer and leave it open.  I didn't have older kids so I wasn't like outside playing in the snow or anything like I'll be this year.  You can usually find winter coats a size or two big (or just stretchy) that will work.  I like biggish winter coats anyway.  They sell maternity ones online... but for some reason I hate the idea of buying a maternity coat LOL.

old navy has a maternity coat that is pretty warm.  Last time I was pregnant (Dec baby) I got away with wearing my fleece jacket over a sweater, and then my husband's big winter coat towards the end when I just didn't care anymore!  cold.gif

I tend to run hot while pregnant so that was helpful!

But we are in Portland, so it does get pretty cold, and is certainly wet wet wet (especially with a la nina year again!) but not freezing freezing freezing....

I live in Ottawa; my first was born end of November and my second end of January so I've had some experience!

I wouldn't put any money into a maternity jacket- not worth it. If you can find a good one used then I'd go for it, but otherwise they're so expensive for so little uses. I also find I run hot in pregnancy so I didn't need a super specialized winter jacket. A jacket a size up (or two...) from what I'd normally wear and a thick sweater was good enough. Oh, and long underwear. Love my long underwear! I could wear my jacket unzipped on all but the coldest days if I had a good hat and my longies on.

For walking in ice/snow- have you tried the MEC ice grippers? They're about $50 bucks but you strap them over your regular boots and they provide awesome ice gripping power. I haven't bought them (yet!) but I've got a couple of friends who love them.
